December 7, 20169 yr As has been mentioned in various threads here, one of Lafayette's football players took a swing at the white-cap referee following the final whistle of the 6A state championship football game between Trinity and Lafayette, knocking the official's hat off. The player in question then removed his helmet and appeared to continue yelling and making gestures angrily toward the official. There was no penalty called following the incident, as the game and season were both at a close. What needs to be done following this indecent? What can, or what should the KHSAA do?
December 7, 20169 yr That should be severe punishment and if he's 18, charges should be filed. Agree If he's not a senior, he should never play a KHSAA sport again. Agree If he's not 18 but a senior, something still needs to be addressed with him in some punitive way. School could dimiss or expell him, fighting at school event could be looked at just like if he took a swing at a teacher.
December 7, 20169 yr Author Looks like his number is 48, and if so, he is indeed a Senior. Yes, the broadcast video from the KHSAA broadcast on the NFHS website showed the jersey number a bit clearer. It definitely appears to be #48.
December 7, 20169 yr Wow, I mean he took a good swat at ref and I'm shocked he wasn't ejected or arrested.
December 7, 20169 yr Should get the same punishment as the official who punched a player in a game earlier this year.
December 7, 20169 yr Did he hit the ref or not? Looks to me like he was close enough to floor him, were that his intent. I'm not arresting a kid, 18 or not, for knocking the hat off a referee.
December 7, 20169 yr Class D Felony in KY. Kid hit the ref in the forehead and as I understand it, charges have been filed by both the KHSAA and the official. Don't mess with officials.
