It comes down to what you criteria is for better. If it's better salary, better resources, funding, etc then yeah Purdue is better. If it is based off better chance to win then it's Western.

 

With all that said if you want a chance to still win a lot, and get paid more and better facilities than WKU then UC would have been better then Purdue. Purdue was able to offer more money and better facilities than UC. However UC could have offered more money than WKU and has better facilities. Plus even though UC is not in a power 5 conference, you can still win there. Plus UC would have gave him a better chance at landing a dream destination type job than staying at WKU would have or going to Purdue would have.

Yeah money, and maybe not wanting to wait and possibly miss out on the Purdue job while UC was just starting their process. I think his choice may have been different if he knew for fact he had the UC job and was offered too.

One problem is if you wait too long and happen to have a bad year or two, then your stock drops.

Brohm only has 1 dream job. Louisville. If he does get Purdue back to bowl games he can be the next coach at Louisville. If he doesn't get Purdue back to bowl games I will be shocked and he will just go be a coordinator somewhere with an even fatter bank account. Purdue is in The big 10 for Gods sake with I think more tv money dispersal than the SEC. Its close to his family in Louisville. Thats all he wants. He is a great person and wow he can coach offense. They are giving him 3.5 mil to hire coaches and while Indiana is not in the deep south for recruiting it is in the BIG 10 West and he can get players with the right guys recruiting. Indianapolis, Chicago, Cincinnati, Louisville, and St. Louis might be a good place to start looking for players. I am personally rooting for him to be Joe Tiller.

I have heard this both ways.

 

I have heard people say that there were some really badly burned bridges between him and Louisville, and I have heard that it is his dream job. Each one from multiple people.

I've typed and re-typed a response to this post 5 times.

 

You're focusing on Purdue's last 20ish years. Not from today moving forward. You're doing the same regarding UC, at least back to Dantonio, not moving forward.

 

A) Purdue has a new AD, a blank checkbook, and PLENTY of money (their endowment, just as an example, is more than double UC's), not even referring to the Big 10 Cash Cow they withdraw from. Their new AD, in spite of many short-comings, knows how to build and sustain a program. He understands the region he is in. To expect the next 5 years to look anything like the previous 5 years is silly.

 

B) UC is in a bad spot. No President. A less than stellar AD. Financially strapped department. A Nippert renovation that still hasn't been fully funded. A 5/3rd renovation that is millions short of the $40 million needed. A conference situation not getting any better, which, by extension, means it is getting worse (the gap between the P5 and everyone else is only going to widen).

 

C) You are insinuating in posts that coaches are thinking about the next job when they take a job. You know, for a fact, that coaches aren't wired that way. When they sit in that presser on Day #1 they, to their core, believe they are staying there until God calls them home. That is how they are wired. They have to be to look Tommy, and his mom and dad, in the eye and win that living room. They have this innate sense to be all-in at a job, at a school, where they are the only one who truly believes they are staying -- but they truly believe that. Jeff Brohm won't be at Purdue forever, but today, 12/6/16, he believes he will.

 

If they end up with Charlie Strong, I think that would be a great get for the Bearcats.

I know the Purdue AD is your guy, but that doesn't change that the job is a graveyard. Hell, this miserable UC team went in there and dominated them THIS season.

 

Over/under is 4.5 years before Brohm is fired and his career takes a dive like those before him. I'll take the under...
