December 5, 20169 yr Congrats. Not the job I would have accepted, but I will never fault a guy for taking 20 mil over 6 years.
December 5, 20169 yr I'd love to know why Purdue over Baylor, Houston, Cincy. Not sure we will ever find out but that intrigues me. Is this Purdue University? Does he have a pulse? There is your answer.
December 5, 20169 yr Purdue :( 6 years for 20 million is amazing, just not sure I would want to get punched in the face by the rest of the Big10 for 6 years.
December 5, 20169 yr I'd love to know why Purdue over Baylor, Houston, Cincy. Not sure we will ever find out but that intrigues me.Lot of uncertainty in its future, non-P5 league and non-P5 league. Two of them are 1,000 miles from home.
December 5, 20169 yr I think I heard 800k a season in base salary, BUT I could be totally wrong. [/i] What was Brohm getting paid at WKU?
December 5, 20169 yr I think I heard 800k a season in base salary, BUT I could be totally wrong. [/i] That is about what I thought it would be. He probably more than double that at UC. If anyone thinks he would not have left WKU for UC, I think they are wrong.
December 5, 20169 yr If anyone thinks he would not have left WKU for UC, I think they are wrong. Then I'm wrong. But I'm not wrong.
December 5, 20169 yr Houston and Cincy are lateral, IMO. A slight step up, sure. But Purdue gets you in a P5 conference. C-USA to the AAC isn't that attractive, I'm sure. Baylor, I agree, would be more interesting to hear about. I just had this discussion with someone else, and I disagree mostly. Houston and Cincinnati are, in my opinion, safer jobs that are still higher profile than WKU. Each are programs that have been in the discussion to go to the Big 12 if expansion were to ever occur, and Cincinnati in particular is probably viable for that because of expanding the footprint. Cincinnati has been in a major conference before, and I believe they will be again. The Bearcats also have shown a bit of history of putting their guys into even bigger jobs after success. Dantonio, Kelly, and Jones are all in high profile jobs and while they collectively didn't have the best year, I don't think they're in any danger. Michigan State, Notre Dame, and Tennessee - these are all worlds better than Purdue, and they each used Cincinnati as a stepping stone to do it. I personally think Brohm could have played a bit more of a long game and gone to Cincy.
December 5, 20169 yr Then I'm wrong. But I'm not wrong. Because he would hold out for a better job? I see double your salary, a higher level football program, still close to home. Why would he pass that up?
December 5, 20169 yr Because he would hold out for a better job? I see double your salary, a higher level football program, still close to home. Why would he pass that up? Yes to your first question. UC being "a higher level football program" is absolutely debatable...and when you look at what the next two years may look like, it only narrows. UC is a mess. Their AD is a mess. Their funding situation is a mess. The future of UC football is a giant neon question mark. Stay where you are, win your tail off, cherry pick some solid P5 opponents, and wait for a better job. Which he just got. No sense in debating a "what might have been" however.
December 5, 20169 yr Author 6 years 20 million would do it for me. At Purdue if he can manage to pull off an upset of OSU, Michigan, Wisconsin or MSU when MSU is having a good year then his profile increases.
December 5, 20169 yr Author Can he recruit the talent needed to be competitive in the Big 10? Will he have a leg up on Trinity talent?
