Put into perspective, South has almost as many boys as JPII has total students.

South Warren playing JP2 .They are as big as JC with more athletes .Interior lineman 327,280, also Oline 260 and bigger 6'4 240 mlb .This will be a test this is a big private school I tn not one of those small TN or WV school most Ky schools play and then brag.

For comparison Calpreps has JP2 as the #42 overall team in TN with a rating of 33.1

 

That would put them #22 overall in KY and comparative to Ballard, Owensboro, and CAL

How come cal preps rankings are inadequate when you dont like them but they are fine when they meet your agenda?Bottom line JP2 play a very difficult schedule and they are A Private 2 TN school which is the best football in TN .Not a weak WV public school yes WV fotball is weak .

I agree with the posters above who stated that it is best to schedule a team you have to play well to beat but that you can beat if you play well.

 

One caveat is it depends on the strength of your district opponents and expected playoff opponents. If you play in a very tough district, I can see scheduling an easy opponent. Otherwise, schedule tough and find out what your team strengths and weaknesses are.

This is more or less my guess at it, but I would think it is in order to have the first round playoff games set earlier to give teams a week to agree on any tweaks to game times and to allow for making any necessary plans for traveling.

You can get injured on any play against any opponent. Part and parcel of the game.

To compare those schools is probably not a good comparison. That's like saying that if a team scheduled Allen Co Scottsville they are similar to South Warren.

 

Let's just call this team what they are. A solid middle of the pack team in TN's toughest classification who can't beat the strongest teams.

You also have me confused with someone else. I give Calpreps plenty of respect for what it is. Is it the end all be all? Absolutely not, but it is in my opinion the best computer poll because it takes a national picture into account and factors in out of state games. For what it is intended I think it is a pretty fun tool.

 

I don't think anyone will disagree that WV football is weak overall. I certainly will not. With that said the difference between WV and KY, and KY and TN, is comparative. It's not about if the best schools can't play football it's about the number of them there are.

 

Trinity and Male can play with any team in TN year in and year out but there are 4-6 Trinity and Males in TN. South Warren could compete in their class every year, same for Belfry, but unlike some years in KY they would have a couple equal foes in their way to a title.

 

West Virginia does not have a Trinity or Male or even a Bowling Green but they have four or five top teams that are equivalent to being teams in the second tier in KY. Cabell Midland often is comparable to a better 6A NKY team and Capital is similar to the best Fayette County teams. In WV this makes them the cream of the crop but they would not compete in KY 6A

Since you want to use Calpreps as a reference now, JP2 would be ranked 4th in WV behind the Capital team Johnson Central beat soundly and one spot ahead of the Cabell Midland team Belfry beat soundly and the South Charleston team JC also handled.That sounds pretty fair to me.

I understand that. I guess what I meant was, playing Moeller at the end of the season is risky. Ohio playoffs are set up completely different. They would either have everything or nothing to lose.

This started about 8-9 years ago when the KHSAA decided to have teams in the first and second round of the playoffs play teams in their own district instead of the teams of the other district in their region to help with travel. Gas was $3+ per gallon. What ended up happening was some teams ended up playing eachother the last week of the season and then again the first week of the playoffs. That would have happened this year with Boyle and Western Hills as they are the 2 & 3 seeds. To avoid this the KHSAA said there will be a one week gap between district games and the first round of the playoffs. Eventually the intradistrict first round of the playoffs stopped but the scheduling did not go back and the one week gap still remains today.
