As Iron Sharpens Iron...

Featured Replies

Proverbs 27:17 says "As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another".

So what is your philosophy on last game scheduling? Should your team challenge itself, hone the edges, heading into the playoffs? Or should they take it easy and play a game where they don't have to put forth as much effort?

For the longest time, Ashland had an open date for the last weekend in the season. I just noticed that Trinity has an open date this week.

Defending champs:

6a Trinity vs OPEN

5a Bowling Green vs 6a 7-2 McCracken

4a South Warren vs II-AA 5-4 Pope John Paul TN

3a Belfry vs 4a 9-0 Johnson Central

2a Mayfield vs 3a 6-3 Caldwell

1a Pikeville vs 3a 4-5 Pike Central

Looks like scheduling up and or a good team is the consensus for champs, Trinity probably couldn't get a game.

I've always thought the final game was a spot to try to schedule as evenly matched a team as possible. You want your team to have to work hard for their win in the final week, and come into the playoffs primed and ready to go.

You don't want a significantly tougher team that's going to beat up on yours and risk injuries to your players, and you don't want a cupcake team that isn't going to offer any challenge.

You particularly don't want a bye week. No one wants to go into the playoffs cold. I have to assume teams like Cooper with bye weeks this Friday are only doing so because they just couldn't manage a game with the schedule the way things were. Otherwise, I just don't get it.

It's a 10 game regular season so play a 10 game regular season

I don't overly understand the premise of "resting starters". I don't mind erring on the side of caution with injured players, but most of your top teams are about to have a very easy First Round game so I see resting starters more of a liability than a luxury.

I would rather have my timing down and have my weaknesses exposed internally prior to Second Round games where you lose and go home.

Give me a weaker opponent that I can work on a few things and get a win without getting too banged up before the playoffs.

I heard a coach say "we don't do cupcakes, cupcake" to a parent complaining about a particular game.

Opposite approach Joe Morris from Mayfield takes. It seems to work.

I think it's a good idea to schedule someone of similar stature, if possible.

Russell is fortunate to have Raceland to close out the season with, especially after a three week run against relatively weak district opposition. The two teams are evenly matched and will test each other. Plus, it's a rivalry game, so no one's going to go half speed out there. Belfry/JC falls into the same category. I think those finale's are ideal for the team's involved.

It's important to refocus and be as sharp as possible heading into the postseason.

I would want a tougher opponent the last week of the regular season than I would have in the 1st round of the playoffs.

I would rather this be a district game but since it isn't.

I like a rival game here. Not one where a team has won 20 in a row, but where the series is even with some nice competition

Trinity used to have a bye opening week, then was closing with Cin. Moeller. Since they didn't renew the series, the ROCKS play 10 straight, then use the final week to rest. I like because, quite frankly, Moeller was a tough opponent and there was no need to risk injury a week before playoffs.

South Warren playing JP2 .They are as big as JC with more athletes .Interior lineman 327,280, also Oline 260 and bigger 6'4 240 mlb .This will be a test this is a big private school I tn not one of those small TN or WV school most Ky schools play and then brag.
