No maybe about it.The crown of his helmet is clearly down.

Watched the game last night. Cam Johnston did great job punting. Pinned Cooper inside the 10 yardline both punts.

yes he did. It's a true same though he wouldn't be a true team player and move to O-Line where he is needed. They had to play sophomore Trent JohnsonFriday night at guard and did a nice job.

Hahaha there it is. Had to read that a couple/three times. Is he #2? I think that is who punted. If so, did a nice job. Weren't pretty but effective. But yeah agree, he has some very nice solid size about him. Guessing 6'1"ish and easily 235. Would do very well on OLine or DLine. That would be a huge help to very thin positions. Don't think he is interested though. Guess keep fine tuning that punt gig. Always good to have awesome special teams.

Wasn't it just last season that HHS coaches were being criticized for not playing guys both ways? Now this season the platoon system is back to being great again. I get confused with how fast things change.

This. And, your 2's get to practice 1 position all week and get better faster.

Highlands D is frequently mushy during the first few weeks. A lot of guys rotating through the D backfield. That will get better.

Thank you EZ. That is the point I often make about platooning. Players get twice the practice time and coaching when you platoon. Because of that, the gap between the more talented player and the "backup" shrinks over time as the "backup" gets better.

ONLY one punt in this game, as neither defense could stop the other. Looked like Cooper was was going to put the beatdown on the Birds early on, but credit the Birds for making the "Play of the Game", when they were down 21-6 and force a fumble in the endzone and recover for the score.

Can someone tell me why Cooper kept going with the "pooch" kick to the 30 every time????? Birds kept getting great field position, and with that defensive display, this is not a good combination.

Cooper QB Jarod Lonaker and RB Dante Hendrix were funny to watch, as were Highlands QB Brady Gosney and RB Jared Pulsfort. However, was a real treat to watch Birds RB Grant Murray....WOW!! young man was tuff as nails tonight. :ylsuper:

Highlands played the whole game in the no huddle/hurry-up offense, and it really hurt the Jags.

I think that was the difference in the game. The hurry up offense really took the Cooper teams legs out from under them. They made a great showing, but just got worn out. Too many kids playing both ways. I have never seen a Cooper team give up so many points.

I think it varies from season to season pending on the players you have available. You don't want to force the two platoon system.

I agree with this. Last season you heard the complaining start when platooning clearly wasn't working. It was a year when there just wasn't enough depth and people were willing to take the other risk of exhaustion. It's one of those things where you say "well what you're doing isn't working this particular year, let's try something different." And I don't think anyone was saying abandon it completely. They were saying you need to get some of your best athletes on both sides of the ball...similar to what Collins did a couple years ago. Played kids on both sides in particular situations. Kind of a hybrid platoon system. This year (as some have alluded to) you are able to start to replenish some depth with younger athletes coming in. I'll say it again, the issue was there were two classes in a row with not a ton of depth. That hurts platooning. If its just one class...not that bad. But two in a row hurts when you need 44 guys rather than 22 to platoon. But just like some predicted these years...we also will now predict that "help is on the way!". Some really nice athletes and classes coming.

You saw "a" picture on facebook? Hmm ok. What is most important is the film which I've watched film full speed and in slow motion. In full speed, which is what the ref saw, it appears the hit was lead with the helmet but in slow motion the helmet was not lead with and in fact the shoulder hits first. It's mute point as the refs interpretation of the call was made and penalty assessed, move on. As I stated previously, the most important thing is that no one was injured. And for the poster calling for the player to be tossed, read the NFHS rule book as players are not ejected for this foul.

Again, good luck to both teams the rest of the season.

Don't think anything has changed. I think the people who want people playing both ways have been very consistent over the years that the several top athletes need to be on the field more on both sides of the ball. I don't think anyone has ever called for ending the two platoon system. At least not that I've noticed.

8 had his head down several steps before making contact, his arm was in.

There was never an attempt at a tackle. He intended to put a bad hit on and should have been tossed!

I get that people will see this play differently, it usually depends on what side you are on. Several are even making these comments based upon a picture, the film shows it was clean, the call was made as the refs saw it.

My issue is for someone to say they know what the player intended to do is comical, actually it is pretty sad. Unless you spoke to the player, which you did not, you have no basis for making such a ridiculous statement.

Sander Roksvag is an absolute beast. Several pancakes all nite as an OL and had to be double teamed most of nite as a DL.

I am guessing he was #53 for Cooper? If so, he did have several key dominating blocks on big plays for Cooper. Noticed that he played a lot of snaps on DL as well, but didn't notice the same impact there. HHS blocking was pretty good on the many dive and crease plays they ran between the tackles. I was surprised they didn't run wide more often given the talent of some of the RBs, but they did fine getting to the 2nd level up the middle so why change it?

Highlands LT #51 Trey King did a great job of sealing #53 many times to help bust some long runs by Pulsfort/Murray. I think that was the same kid who puked before Halftime. He was a beast....hope he continues to get better and has a great season.

The rule will change soon.
