It's about time we quit beating this dead horse, because 15 less yards for Highlands wouldn't make a difference in the game at all. Remember, penalty's are usually judgement calls, so it's not who calls it, but how the ref sees it. I also believe the refs had a meeting after the play before they threw the flag, to verify that all the officials were in agreement.

Maybe so maybe not. My issue is it was called by the back judge who was 10-15 yards away and not the side judge who was less than 5 yards away and a far better angle.

Watching BG tonight I strongly disagree.

It's what several of us have said but you see for all the Cooper haters in here they seem to think any year Coooer isn't in 5A they should be because they think they would win state. Just like last year when the same people claimed Cooper would have won 5A state title. Those folks ignore the rest of 5A.

 

Last year just like this year Cooper has as much chance in winning 5A than they do 6A.

Oh I think both teams proved their defense was Swiss cheese last night.

Reading this thread reminds me of my thoughts of Highland fans (a majority of them). I can't tell if it's the kids or the parents on here whining about some petty stuff even after a win. I honestly don't believe Cooper is out of shape. From I was told by several players they conditioned quite often both on campus and at a training facility back to back on some days. I believe most teams that can't platoon or have limited subs are going to wear down against a no huddle platooning team.

I really am trying to leave this "issue" behind me but no matter how we slice up the pie Cooper should not be playing 6A Football. Again this year the Jags would be a title contender in 5A but in 6A they are just another team.

 

And Highlands playing up from 4A to 5A is nothing like any team playing up from 5A to 6A. Apples and Atom Bombs.

Cooper lost so many players to graduation that you saw first hand last night how much they hurt because they had to play too many players both ways. Cooper has the # of players to platoon but when you have so many players who can't play yet at this level without a major drop off on the field then platooning can't be done. Bigger schools have players going both ways too I need to remind people. You can have 80 kids but if only 15 are good enough not to hurt the team in the field then you have to go with what you have.

 

Cooper ers lost to a team that so many remind everyone is the team many should model themselves after. They are the torch carriers for the state, yet even realist HHS fans would admit that wasn't a very good defensive showing either by the Bluebirds.

 

To think Cooper would be a favorite this year in 5A is stupid and is basically saying 5A has no one very good in that class this year.

 

To compare Cooper teams, I compared

last years team with 2012's as far as amount of talent. I compare this team to 2013 where there are only a handful of playmakers on the field.

They played as hard as they could both teams did. I doubt you will find one player on any team that will admit to not giving 100 percent Friday night or Saturday.

Here we go with the griping that Borchers should play more kids or platoon more. Don't people realize that just because you have a certain amount of kids on your team doesn't equate that little Johnny on the sidelines is ready or should be playing. I'm sure if Borchers and the coaching staff had confidence in the other kids on the sidelines that they would be in the game. Special teams is a huge part in high school football and any let down in them can cost you a game. I would rather have a somewhat tired experienced player on the field than a kid that you don't know what you are going to get when they are out there. Also 6A football in NKY is not like 6A in Louisville and Lexington. Not enough overall talent in NKY to platoon. SK is the only NKY 6a school that can platoon on a year in year out basis. Ryle is getting there, but Conner and Cooper may never get there. Again, Borchers and his staff see every kid in practice every day. I'm sure if they had confidence that they could contribute and get the job done without a significant drop off that they would be out there.

 

Having a lack of confidence in the kids at Cooper has been the main problem with the programs growth. Several kids choose not to play or leave the team because they know if they are not in that 1 slot, the chances of seeing the field on Friday night even as a sub are very limited. Their talent level may be a step down, but the effort is the same. If the coaching staff is as good as everyone says, (and I believe a majority of them are), they should be able to confidentially prepare a back up for most of the kids that are going both ways. The back up can at least spare a breather for a play or two. Confidence is not immediate, it's built. The gripe about Borchers playing more kids has been around since i've known the program, and it's not all from little Johnny's parents. Even parents of starters agree that at times some of the kids on the sideline need to be in to help build depth. But what do I know???

It's probably a good thing for Highlands that Cooper didn't platoon and had a ton of their players gassed and cramping etc.

 

If that didn't happen it could have been a very ugly loss for HHS. Before any of the players starts going down etc. Cooper was pretty much dominating. So HHS in reality should be very happy that occurred.

Regardless of anything you play 4 quarters. Both teams. Not Highlands fault Cooper gassed out. That's why you play the game. Highlands won because they was the better team in 4 quarters. Wish Cooper the best of luck this yr.

I totally agree 100%. This was just what I took away from the game and after hearing several people state how dominating they think HHS offense was. What I took away from the game was HHS offense didnt get going until after Coopers fatigue set in.

 

You are correct. Cooper is the one who is at fault for getting gassed. No one else. HHS no huddle offense was the deciding factor of the game

and a brilliant move if you ask me.
