I will add this. If you forget about the candidates and just think about the two conventions - the vision put forth by the Dems was a lopsided winner. The Dem's positive theme throughout the large majority of the week and their vision that America is great was a big winner versus the pessimism, gloom, doom and anger at the Republican convention.

 

What I don't get is how can a continued vision of the last 8 years be positive. This has been one of the worst years of my life in terms of drama in the country.

I wasn't around for the 1960s, 1930s or 1860s. I missed Vietnam, Civil Rights, the Great Depression and the Civil War.

 

What I see now is a divided country. When a large number of people openly disregard the lives of others, when we have terrorist attacks at home and abroad, when we can't have a civil discussion about sexuality, when many feel the government oversteps its bounds while others feel it doesn't go far enough.

 

We have cops being targeted, as well as cops targeting minorities. Education is a national disaster, as student loans are crippling the young working class.

 

I don't see who anyone says that this isn't a terrible time or that we don't need major change. To me the party in control doesn't eliminate hate, they only allow it to grow.

 

Say what you want about Bush but at least people were only mad at the government in 2008. Didn't have open ware fare in the streets. The threats of violence were foreign terrorists and not the American public.

 

Can Clinton change America? Let's hope because Obama did bring change to America and it was bad change.

Let's be honest Trump is awful, but I can't in good faith vote for 4-8 more years.

True. But this is always how it is. The incumbent has to say, "We've been doing great and there is more great we can do together!" The challenger has to say, "The incumbent has been doing horribly. Look how bad things really are. We need change and I am the change we need."

 

That is the nature of an election. You could argue that the GOP message was more negative than usual, but the whole system is set up to offer those two contrasting descriptions of reality.

I don't see 90 percent either, but perception does matter. The Dems appear united; the GOP is divided. That'll be meaningful on Nov. 8. What also will be interesting is: Will Romney endorse Johnson, as has been rumored? If so, will that open the floodgates? Stay tuned.

The Trump narrative is much more negative than any challenger candidate that I've heard.

 

As far as the doom and gloom. All of the feelings aren't supported by facts: Violent crime is down, police shootings are down, illegal immigration down, etc. etc. etc.

 

What we have is a candidate for president trying to scare people into electing him by using the sensational media to prey on people's fears. Some seem to be swallowing it hook, line, and sinker.
