I hear what you are saying and I have heard it every election I could vote in. I'm still trying to figure out how President Obama ruined the country. This is the first time I have felt it. You're older than me. Has there ever been a personality like Trump's as a presidential nominee?

You'd have to dig pretty deep into history to find a candidate remotely comparable to Trump. Huey Long maybe. And that's just for straight ahead rabble-rousing populism.

 

You'd have to go back to Eisenhower to find a president who'd never held elected office before. Though, I would argue being the Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces in WWII and the Supreme Commander of NATO afterward probably gave him considerable experience in public affairs and foreign policy in a way promoting an image of decadence probably hasn't.

 

Then you'd probably have to go back to Goldwater or McGovern to find candidates who came as close to polarizing their own party as Trump, let alone the rest of the country. Yet, both were Senators who professed consistent ideologies within - albeit at the extremes - of their respective parties.

 

Trump is some bizarre amalgamation of the worst or most unlikely traits of all these candidates. He's a deeply inexperienced and ignorant brand-name mogul with no discernible ideology or policy platform who has hijacked one of the major parties through a combination of ethnonationalist populist rhetoric, bald-faced lies, and cheap insults. Happens every four years.

No but people have always found things that scared them. Their fears were just as real as yours. Just as unfounded too. I do recall some on here who were truthfully scared of Obama. I told them the same thing.

Have the Democrats done much this week to make inroads among Trump's support among white voters without a college education? This is a demographic that has traditionally been a problem for the Dems and is an even bigger problem this cycle.

Romney was a +26 with this group; Trump a +37.

 

Multi-millionaire Nancy Pelosi did not help Clinton's case with her statement last night.

The Dems have run a great convention but it could all be for naught if Hillary doesn't bring it home. Just like I said about Trump last week, Hillary needs to deliver the speech of her life. There is also a rumored protest walk out on her by Bernie supporters. That would put a negative ending on a very well run convention.

Yeah but we all know Trump's history of volatile decision making, unfiltered mouth, his ego. I don't know. And maybe you are correct but as I said, I've been voting since 1992 and I have never felt this concerned about a potential president. This is new to me. He genuinely scares me.
