Baton Rouge Police Shooting

Featured Replies

Ok deuce I had a whole list of stuff along the lines of your question but I really need to see the initial approach towards the suspect.

Is there any video of the initial pull up by the cops?

The police took video from the store owner that may show that.

He wasn't really complying with their commands, was he?

What should they have done differently?

In the end, if he reached for the gun then their approach doesn't really matter. They didn't go in guns blazing, they tried to arrest him without using deadly force. If he reached for the gun, that's HIS fault. Would you agree? Shouldn't he beat the responsibility of his own death if that is what happened?

By the looks of things they gave verbal commands, which he ignored. They used less lethal force with a taser, which he ignored. They then used a hands on less lethal approach which he resisted. Had any of those been effective they never would have had to escalate to lethal force. A lot of folks seem to be overlooking that.

Which goes back to my question, what else should they have done?

Well I had typed up previously but decided not to post it. Seems as though a lot of folks believe as police officers if at first you don't succeed, try, try again. Then call it a day and just head home.

Mount a GoPro in the middle of your chest and get in a fight on the ground with someone. Most of the time all you will see in a hand to hand fight on camera, is the other guys chest.

Body cams aren't expected to stay on during a MMA style fight on the ground. They are pretty good at recording when there is some distance of a few feet between the officer and the person. But chest to chest all you will see is maybe the other guys shirt.

Simply no way to mount them that they won't or can't get knocked off during a fight. If can come up with a way patent it, if logical without adding weight you could be rich selling them all over the country.

Mma, Jiu Jitsu training would be a great way to work out the kinks. That's about as close as you can get to simulating these type of resistance situations. My goal for those things would be automatic focus as quickly as possible do the moment the rolling stops, we see what the officer sees instead of relying on cell phone footage from someone. Those Videos Are Too Tough To Get A Good Idea from. Jumper, when I get this patent, do you want me 1 boat, or 2?

That's difficult to watch.

It looked like the cop pulled something from his pocket, but couldn't see what it was.

If that was a gun, it's the smallest one I've ever seen.

That was my first thought as well, but I admittedly haven't been around all that many guns...

The first video we saw was recorded by an activist group called Stop the Killing, Inc. They monitor the police scanner in Baton Rouge and go record.

How many bad guys have been killed in Baton Rouge in order for folks to form a group and record the cops?

Waiting for a toxicology report on the criminal that got shot. Nothing seemed to get him to stop.

I don't know what the procedures are for things like this....

If the guy is resisting, which he clearly was, and verbal commands don't work, they taze. If that doesn't work and he's still resisting, from your post it sounds like they than go to a physical approach. If that still doesn't work, and the guy is still resisting, is lethal force the next step, even if the resistance isn't violent?

2 so I can borrow it...just keep one on Lake Cumberland and I'll keep an eye on it for you.

I don't think the group is limited to BR.

Both cops had the man's arms pinned down and not moving. At that point, is it even necessary to pull out your gun? You have the man pretty much defenseless at that point.
