July 25, 201610 yr Hasn't Rondon been pretty effective as a closer this year? I see this deal being more about winning in the postseason than anything else Rondon has been pretty solid -- much better than I assumed until I looked at his stats. Despite those numbers, I'd be nervous if he were my closer in the postseason.
July 25, 201610 yr Well if we can get it done this year, well worth it. Cubs have a solid rotation. If they can follow the Royals blueprint of essentially shortening games to 6 innings, they should have a great shot at a deep post season run. Strop in the 7th, Rondon in the 8th, with Chapman in the 9th...nasty.
July 25, 201610 yr The issue was with Chapman's pending suspension. If he was suspended for more than 75 games (give or take a few), then he would not have accrued the necessary MLB Service time to become a free agent this offseason. MLB chose to suspend him for less than that threshold, Chapman agreed not to appeal, and he'll be a FA this offseason. No , this was something else. His original contract had an option for that year, but if he reached enough service time it was gone or something. I'm not sure or maybe I'm wrong. :lol2: Edit... Looks like that had something to do with his last arbitration year. So I was just wrong.
July 25, 201610 yr MLB Network saying it is a 4 for 1 swap with the players being agreed upon...a few details left to work out. Chapman for SS Gleyber Torres, OF Billy McKinney, RHP Adam Warren and 4th player (yet unnamed)
July 25, 201610 yr It's official...Yankees get Torres, Billy McKinley, Adam Warren and "one other player" Better win it all, otherwise we just got smoked in this trade. Curse of the goat continues.
July 25, 201610 yr Curse of the goat continues. Go stir up crap in controversial issues and leave baseball talk to the adults.

July 25, 201610 yr Go stir up crap in controversial issues and leave baseball talk to the adults. This a million times over. Of course, it's just as annoying reading it in that forum as well...

July 25, 201610 yr Author Real adults aren't Cubs fans. Real adults aren't Reds fans either.... the 4th player going to New York is Rashad Crawford
July 25, 201610 yr Thiis deal sure makes the Reds trading of Chapman look pretty bad That's exactly what I said would happen.
July 25, 201610 yr Yep. Reds screwed up by not trying to move him at last year's deadline. They tried just couldn't get a trading partner. For awhile last year it looked like Arizona but that didn't materialize. I think the Reds wanted AJ Pollock who would have been cheap and under control through 2019.
July 25, 201610 yr It's official...Yankees get Torres, Billy McKinley, Adam Warren and "one other player" Better win it all, otherwise we just got smoked in this trade. In these trades you just have to put the lost prospects out of your mind. Sure, some of them hurt but whether it is a trade or a questionable contract handed out you just have to be glad that your team is going for it and is a factor. I remember Theo catching heck for signing JD Drew and Dice-K. Sure those two under-achieved but the Sox don't win it all in 2007 without them. Same thing with trading away Hanley for Beckett. The bottom line is this move makes the Cubs a better team today.
