July 25, 201610 yr It's official...Yankees get Torres, Billy McKinley, Adam Warren and "one other player" Better win it all, otherwise we just got smoked in this trade.
July 25, 201610 yr Interesting... I heard on Sports Talk radio a couple of times last week (and I thought one of the times it was Olney) who stated that the Yankees had decided to keep Miller and focus on trading Chapman. Looks like I heard wrong

I heard on Sports Talk radio a couple of times last week (and I thought one of the times it was Olney) who stated that the Yankees had decided to keep Miller and focus on trading Chapman. Looks like I heard wrong They were saying they wanted to get the Chapman trade done then focus on trading Miller. That's what I was seeing.
July 25, 201610 yr They'll have the option for Chapman next season as well. Still a ton to give up for a closer.
July 25, 201610 yr They'll have the option for Chapman next season as well. Still a ton to give up for a closer. Thiis deal sure makes the Reds trading of Chapman look pretty bad
July 25, 201610 yr Thiis deal sure makes the Reds trading of Chapman look pretty bad Yep. Reds screwed up by not trying to move him at last year's deadline.
July 25, 201610 yr Thiis deal sure makes the Reds trading of Chapman look pretty bad That's what I'm thinking. Hard not to be disappointed as a Reds fan.

I think Torres for Chapman straight up was more than fair.McKinnley hasn't looked good this year coming back from injury. I guess getting rid of Warrens salary is a plus? I dunno. Is there a club option on Chapman for next year?
July 25, 201610 yr Thiis deal sure makes the Reds trading of Chapman look pretty bad Even with the circumstances being very different, it's not good. At all.

Is there a club option on Chapman for next year? Looking at it more closely, I may have misread it. Doesn't look like there is one. McKinney hasn't been as good as hoped this year, but still has a solid OBP and a nice BB rate.

I think there was something about his arbitration years/service time that negated that option at some point. I forget.
July 25, 201610 yr Chapman does not have an option. He's due $11.325 million this year, so the Cubs will be responsible for roughly half of that. He'll be a free agent this offseason.
July 25, 201610 yr I think there was something about his arbitration years/service time that negated that option at some point. I forget. The issue was with Chapman's pending suspension. If he was suspended for more than 75 games (give or take a few), then he would not have accrued the necessary MLB Service time to become a free agent this offseason. MLB chose to suspend him for less than that threshold, Chapman agreed not to appeal, and he'll be a FA this offseason.
