Did you or anyone else think this was a catch and a fumble? It appeared as though he caught the ball, took a good 3 or 4 steps and then took the hit that jarred it loose.

I thought it was a catch easily i guess the ref had a better view.

OK then hypothetically, a 15-0 season with wins over the teams on this schedule would place a team where in HHS lore? My initial point was that how they play against the big powerhouse teams is not a barometer on how they fare in 3A. It will help prepare the Birds for a title run. But there is no 3A team in KY that could compete in the GCL year in and year out. Its apples and oranges.
I'm not sure who you're arguing with. It's definitely not me.

If the Birds go 15-0 on this schedule (again, getting way ahead of things) this would be one of, if not THE best team they ever had. But that's a very subjective call.

Good Luck Against St. X Birds

I'm not sure myself. Go Birds!

Yes , thats what it looked like . There where 3 or 4 calls I didn't like , but the Birds came to play and we didn't ! Congrats to the Birds on the game .

Remember HHS lost to Elder in the regular season in their last 2 championship seasons. I understand these are benchmark games. I don't think that benchmark concerns other 3A teams though. I believe the Birds know where they stand in class3A. Going 15-0 against these opponents would be a barometer of where they stand in the nation, and in HHS history.

We played Elder close those two years right? And we won state championships those two years.

Last year we got blown out by X, Colerain and DeSales right? And we did not win the state championship.

LN never said we have to beat X, Elder and DeSales to win 3A, but how we play against them will in fact be a barometer of how good of a team we have, and thus a barometer of our chances in of winning 3A.

I know lineman are not taught this. In the FTJRFL anyone with a stripe on his helmet cannot advance the ball. They are taught to just cover it up.

Right. I'm referring more to the non stripes and the football camps that are held. Is it true for those?

I dont think so, but when my boys played only 1 player on their team was allowed to touch the ball:D :D :D :D

Right. Actually Gino's team had a suspect call affect the outcome of their game with Elder.

I bet the Ru has a picture of that non-fumble tucked away somewhere.

I think most of us Dixie supporters knew this game would be impossible to hang close. Dixie traditionally starts slow, as evident that the last few years with the opening game vs. Highlands that have been a rollover for the Bluebirds. This year's preseason interruptions with Dixie having to practice at Edgewood's Freedom Park, without a lined field, limitation on time restraints when they can use the city's park, lack of practice equipment, and the school pretty much being on lockdown with construction so they couldn't use the weight room as usual, has put the Colonels in a state of disarray. Being off their normal preseason development schedule has hurt them. Not to take anything away from Highlands. They are the elite in No. Ky. right now, and are ready to play! Dixie was way overmatched and too slow. Best of luck to the Bluebirds for the rest of the season! Don't judge Dixie as being down this year based on a first game blowout. It has happened the last few years. Tom Spritzky will have them ready for district play. They will get on their new home field to practice real soon, and get comfortable being at home on a real football field which will help them enormously.

Someone closer to the program can say for sure but it's my understanding the boys are taught from a young age to pick up and advance balls on the ground. Different from what this old lineman was taught to do but can't argue with the record.

Birds on defense are taught to try to pick up the fumble and run with it. On offense they are to fall on the ball.

Well, then they are beign taught the wrong thing. You secure possession and go back to the drawing board, you shouldnt risk a turnover just so you can look good on the highlight film.

Now, if a lineman wants to advance a ball and he sees paydirt....what the heck... go for it big FELLA. :thumb:

You would be surprised . . . . . . . .

Going from an average program (that has had some really good years and some not so good years), that was one of the immediate differences as a coach.

The average program wanted to secure the ball.

The outstanding program want to secure the ball (by picking it up) and then finding a way to score/advance.

Call it what you want but it will come back to haunt them if they continue to try and scoop up balls when they fumble on OFFENSE which is what I saw the other night. When you are blowing people out by 40 pts I guess it really doesnt matter but in a tight game.... don't tell me just becasue you are an outstanding program that you should be risking possession.

This has nothing to do with the game or maybe it does. I was told at the JV game that the National Anthem was not played before the Varsity game Friday night. I got there around 7:10 and it wasn't played after that. If it was then LexCath's:rolleyes: band needs to turn up the volume. Black and blue band uni's! :irked: A whole other issue. Does anyone have any info on this. And if it wasn't played then WHY NOT!!!
