No soup for the Colonels either.

Nice shots, guru.

I'd like to hear your analysis of this one though. I expected a rather easy Highlands win, but this was really one sided. Highlands is a very good NKY team, but this apprantely was a totally one sided affair.

I like to put points on the board, but I think you line up and kick it when your playing a far inferior opponent. You might need those plays against Elder or St . X. Why give Elder or St X the time to scout it? Did it make a difference if it was 45-0 tonight instead of 48-0? As I said earlier, it could have been 70 -0 if Highlands really wanted to put up points. Those 2 pt conversions were totally unnecessary.

That muddle huddle will force teams to use very precious practice time focusing on stopping a point after conversion. Its brilliant

I hope Highlands does well but ill wait to start making pizza box predictions until they play St X/Elder. They will let HHS know if they are as good as they think or if they need to improve on a lot.

I didnt know ST X and Elder played 3A football in KY. Please tell me how they play in those games affects their getting to the title game. Are you saying there are 3A teams (besides HHS) that compare to those 2 teams? Please name 1

Even after they beat these two, :sssh: they will still need to make improvements on what they do. Dale and his staff are always looking for ways to be the very best they can be. That's why the play the best, starting with last nights game.

I understand the point SA is making MC. While the first two games are decent opponents, we won't find out how good we are or are not until we play Elder, X and DeSales. I'm not saying that we can't win state if we don't beat all three of those teams (although of course I believe we will if for no other reason if you don't believe it will happen, it can't), but those games are a better barometer of how will we fare against CovCath, LexCath, Rockcastle, Bell, Boyle and/or BG than I believe the Dixie and Conner games are.

It's not going to take an hour to figure out that you point one more defensive guy out there on the defensive left side and bring him.

Sorry FT, got to agree with Henry and the others on this point. 1. It does take time away from other preparation to focus on the pat. 2. It helps the Highlands players execute the play better by doing it in a game time situation, even against, as you call Dixie, an "inferior opponent". And 3. Hopefully Conner will make the adjustments you propose, and Highlands will get the opportunity to try and execute the play against a different defensive alignment. If they did not show it until they play X or Elder, and they defend it differently than what Dixie did last night, hopefully by showing it to Conner and Conner trying to defend it differently than Dixie did, Highlands will have an opportunity in a game situation against something that X or Elder may try. I understand your point, and I just think it's a matter of different philosophies, neither one necessarily wrong or right. Over the years Dale has had pretty much success, so I think I'll defer to his coaching philosophy decisions.

I'm glad you said it LN. Without sounding like I am reiterating what most are saying I will use this format.

Impressed with:

Jordan Kramer's exlosiveness and swivel hips

Highlands' Offensive line blowing people off the ball and using their increased size and strength. nice job boys!!!!

HHS Defense period. In their grill all night....Head's Pick, DL pressure and Hurtt blowing up Maloney on that screen..... Bricking was prob very

Special Teams- Bathiany drops 98% of koffs in endzone. Only punt I saw was a booming NFL esque punt by Hurtt...maybe only 40 yrds but atleast 3.5 sec hangtime.

Clay Cecil's aggressiveness on runs...although he better relax a little its a long season...taking on MLB'ers head on at full speed may not be a good choice against the Elder's and Lou St.Xers...

Needs Improvement:

Bluebirds ability to hang onto the football and "FALL ON IT" when it is loose. I hope the little guys werent taking pointers last night watching several birds trying to scoop up fumbles and advance.

Cecil's ability to get comfortable in the pocket. Plenty of time just needs to relax and see the field. I now a couple of times Stein was open on deep corner routes and I don't think Clay saw him because he already made up his mind on a receiver. This will come.

Utilizing Luke Stein more on offense. He is one of the most athletic kids on that team and he needs the ball in his hands more on drags and quick outs to open up the running game even more. I counted two times he got behind the DB's also on those corner routes.

Mercy Rule.....I hate this. Not because I think teams should run it up on others but because it means the game flys by and 2nd and 3rd teamers don't get the opportunity to get more reps. The 1st qtr took 40 min last night... the 2nd half took 30 I think.

Overall a great game by the Birds !!! Very impressed.

I hope Dale doesnt put too much more pressure on Jordan...I was a little miffed at his comments in the Enquirer this morning about his ability to do more. 210 all purpose yrds werent enough for a blowout....jeeeeez

I was at the game and i cant say that Kramer was phenomenal. Yes he did have so very goods runs, dont get me wrong, but he also had three fumbles in the first half. If the defense was paying more attention they could of had two of the fumbles. He did have a good game though.

I agree...;) ...he had a really rough night...

"Kramer didn't play in the fourth quarter, but he still ended up with 210 all-purpose yards. The breakdown was 128 yards rushing, 70 yards receiving and 12 yards in returns."

Now, on to the game. Birds D looked very, very good. Run defense was spectacular. Pass defense was pretty good. Spencer Head in particular was fantastic. Boy turned on the burners when he intercepted the pass and scored. Felt sorry for Bricking. Most of the times he was running for his life and when there was not pressure, his passes were a little off or the ball was dropped (admittedly there weren't many dropped passes by Dixie, most were off the mark).

On O we looked great in the first quarter and early in the second quarter because we were primarily running the ball, the strength of the O right now. Dale spent the rest of the game working on passing, which is why the O bogged down, as we are not a great passing team at this point, which is to be expected. There is no doubt we need to improve on our passing game if we are going to compete against X, Elder, DeSales and CovCath, so I was glad to see him work on it. If Dale was only interested in scoring points, he would have stuck with the run and Kramer would have had 300 yards rushing, but that would not have improved the team. We do need to work on blitz protection. With 4 down D linemen tying up the guards and tackles of Highlands O, Clay needs to get used to looking for the outside blitz and finding the hot receiver and our backs need to work on picking up the blitz. That will come with experience and the second half gave them some of that experience.

Dixie has some talent and by the end of the season will be much improved. They play their way into shape and execution. They have some nice looking athletes. O linemen are big and strong, but need to improve their foot speed and conditioning for Tom to run the offense that he does. Molony certainly won my respect in the way he played. Took some really wicked licks to the head, ribs and legs and kept running the ball hard. Plus he played some defense. Kid is a tough nut, that's for sure. A well deserved tip of the hat to you young man if you are reading this site. Dixie's linebackers looked good also. Denham on the d line impressed me and you could see he was in shape and ready to play.

I hope that Tom does not get frustrated by these scores. I think he realizes that even if he gets beat bad in the first game by Highlands, the game does improve his team. It would be a shame for him to stop scheduling Highlands. I saw one Dixie coach (not Tom and I won't mention his name) make a gesture towards Dale (and it was NOT an obscene gesture) after Cecil completed the long td pass to Kramer in the 3rd quarter to the effect of "quit piling it on". While I understand his frustration, Dale was not trying to run up the score or make Dixie look bad. He was simply trying to improve his team to make their chances better at winning state. There can be no doubt that our long passing game needs a lot of work and you get better at something by running it during game situations. Likewise I understand Tom's decision to stick with his starters when Highlands put their jv in the game. One Highlands fan made a comment to me at a post game party that Tom should have put his JV in when Dale did. I told him that the JV game was on Saturday and Tom's job is to improve his starters to make them better for their next game and he was improving them by keeping them in the game, if by nothing else, improving their conditioning.

I thought both teams played hard, clean football. I don't for a second believe the multiple face mask penalties by Dixie were motivated by playing dirty, they were more of a result from Highlands being quicker and the Dixie players grabbing for anything they could to make a tackle and inadvertently grabbing face masks.

I wish Tom and the Dixie players nothing but success the rest of the year. Work hard, put this game behind you and move on. LN

any thoughts on the Birds's use of Stein in the offense and going forward?

No soup for the Colonels either.

Did you or anyone else think this was a catch and a fumble? It appeared as though he caught the ball, took a good 3 or 4 steps and then took the hit that jarred it loose.

I'm sure you will see it, but its not that phase of the passing game that needs work and improvement.
