A Mayfield or Belfry like small school would almost yearly due just fine and often win against all but the top 10 or so 5 and 6A teams. So unless you are one of the big boy elites I would say its fine

The top 4 or 5 2a teams beat most 6a teams on their schedules last year.....handily.

Trinity, St Xavier,Male,Manuel are teams that lower class teams should n't or couldn't beat. I am not saying it couldn't happen but it's possible upsets happen.

No. Conner won that game 6-0, in horrible weather I believe.

In my opinion I think it depends on the quality of football team, the Jimmys and Joes and coaching. To be honest, unless you are T or X, just because 6A team has 70 guys on the sideline it doesn't mean they're better than the 40 guys on the 1 or 2A team sideline. I will admit a 6A team shouldn't load an entire schedule with lower division teams. Of course nobody really had a problem when an area team that was on a string of hardluck years toned down their schedule to get more competitive thereby getting more interest in the program.

This is an area I'm so 50/50 on. I'd love to see a Mayfield vs Bowling Green matchup but I get why it probably wouldn't happen. Hurts the bigger school to lose to the smaller one or vice versa, hard to match the potential depth of a larger squad that could run a smaller team ragged.

A top 5 team? Not unless it is a traditional rivalry or you are desperate to fill a slot and they are the only team willing.

 

A top 10 team? That 2A or 1A had better be top of their class and even then it's questionable.

 

A top 15 team? The top schools of 2A would be okay, but 1A is still questionable.

Since 2000, Henry Clay & Belfry have played 4 times splitting the games 2-2. They have also played Tates Creek twice during that span & are 2-0 against the Commodores.

I would say no. There is nothing positive that could come out of it for a 6A team. If you win so what you beat up a 1/2 A team but if they win you are on every sports highlight film for that week. Now if are are a very week 6A team then I think the chance of a win might be worth it.

If you want to be prepared to win the title in 6A there are not many teams in KY outside of the top teams in 6A that would prepare you for what they would throw at you. DeSales, Mayfield, and Central are 3 teams that I would say might prep you for a 6A run, but even then you would likely be better off in many cases playing an OOS school if you are in NKY like the GCL. Not everyone can travel much and I get that. If you can't schedule an out of state power or one of the big teams in 6A then I can see why some of the 1A or 2A powers would be worthwhile but I would start with the 5A squads like BG or HHS first.

I kind of disagree with you Deuce, however, what do you consider "good" 6A (prior record or perennial playoff contender)? Since just about everyone gets in the playoffs in football any more, it might be harder to determine outside of T, X, Male, etc.....:idunno:
