I kind of disagree with you Deuce, however, what do you consider "good" 6A (prior record or perennial playoff contender)? Since just about everyone gets in the playoffs in football any more, it might be harder to determine outside of T, X, Male, etc.....:idunno:

5 TD's is effectively a running clock. I don't think Male runs the clock on Mayfield. But, I really wouldn't be all that surprised if they did. Heck, you might be right. I could be wrong, there's a first time for everything.

 

But, I think any given year, the top 5 team in 6A beat anybody in 1A or 2A, and probably anybody in 3A.

I don't see how you can compare 1A school to a 6A relevant.. That is just the size of the school, which really can't justify the talent of a team. It just places them in the same category with the number of kids and supposedly a school that should have a bigger team than others. Though a 2A school could potentially pad up more than a 6A school, just because more kids want to play. I could see not having a 20 player team going up against a 90 player team and that could be argued. Though, if both teams are numbered up who knows which team could win. It mainly runs down to the coaches and reputation and history of the schools. Just my opinion

Here is some food for thought, the difference between the largest 6A school and the smallest 6A school in KY is 651 boys.

In comparison, the difference between the smallest school in the state and the smallest 6A school is 674 boys.

 

Good teams should play good teams. If that means a good 6A plays a good 2A, then so be it. Classification in KY doesn't mean anything.

DeSales and CAL carry enough numbers to match the majority of 6A teams, good or otherwise, so you're totally on point in terms of talent mattering at all levels. I agree with your point that most coaches know their team and what that team is capable of in terms of big challenges against bigger schools.

You are correct. I believe CAL has close to 20 Seniors on this years roster.

I'd give it a shot. If I'm Trinity, I'd play Mayfield or Belfry 12 times before I'd even consider playing a Seneca or a Doss.

Honestly the big programs in Cincinnati and Nashville are closer to Trinity than either Mayfield or Belfry anyway. The only small schools that are close to Trinity that might be worth the trouble are DeSales, Central, and maybe (big maybe here) CAL. CAL drops a bit because they have had limited playoff success.

Year in and year out Mayfield can't play with a Trinity. However, this year's Mayfield team should be able to play to give any team in the state a decent game except for a very few teams.

It wasn't that long ago that Danville was a top 5 team in the whole state. Teams go in cycle's and Mayfield is in a good one while Beechwood and Danville are both good teams they are not as strong as they have been.

South Warren is only an hour or so from Nashville and FC isn't that far from Cincy if they wanted to schedule up. Now if you are referring to scheduling them instead of 6A bottom feeders then yeah I think that is acceptable. If the options are FC and SW or Doss and Fairdale then the choice is obviously the former.
