Is the reality of President Trump setting in with everyone?

Featured Replies

What do you think is going to happen to the average working person that will deteriorate their situation. Is there something specific or is this just political rhetoric? I'm not being argumentative I'm seriously wonder what makes you feel this way.

I expect that the climate will shift to almost exclusively corporate interests. I expect little, if any, attempt to reform the tax code in a way that benefits the common citizen. I expect that the working poor, those that are working but suplimented by SNAP or other benefits will see their assistance reduced, while wages remain stagnant. I expect to see no increase in domestic job growth. I expect to see AHCA attacked.

Exactly. No matter who our next president is they will be a very weak one with no real ability to push through their agendas. On the domestic front I think either one would be a push due to a lack of power. On the international front I believe Trump would do much more long term harm to the US.

Don't bet the house on this. Many of the analysts expect the Senate to flip to the Dems. There are 24 Republican seats up for election and only 10 Democratic Senate seats. With the very clear anti-incumbent, anti-Washington voter rebellion in motion and a weak Republican leading the ticket, the odds are the Senate flips. If the Dems also gain a good number if House seats, the Dems will claim a mandate. This is a very real and possible result in November.

Republicans deserve it, if it ends up happening.

In other words, we all lose. :lol2:

HRC vs Trump will be a record.

Two most-disliked candidates (measured by "unfavorable" scores) for the POTUS.

Yippee.

If Tax Code is changed to benefit corporations and encourage investment and they in turn expand and hire more employees is that bad for workers?

If AHCA is changed giving more control and choices to the consumer, would that be bad...just because change is made to AHCA doesn't mean it would be a net negative.

Trump Tax plan showed a dramatic decrease in taxes for the average family as compared to either Hillary or Bernies plan...if there is an extra $2-3,000 in my pocket and in the pocket of every working family...how is that bad? Bernie "I'm for the common man" Sanders plan would cost an average family of 4 around $2000 more in taxes each year than they are currently paying.

I've seen nothing to suggest that SNAP or any other Assistance will be cut...I would love to see it cut due to less people needing it.

Wages at the low end will continue to increase as state after state increases their minimum wage...I don't see whoever is in the White House stifling that...as minimum wages go up other wages go up incrementally as well.

If anyone goes back to the night President Obama was Elected, I posted on here that I hope he does a great job and that I want to vote for him in 4 years. Whether Trump or Clinton is Elected I will have the same thought process this time, I never want to see our President Fail.

Hillary has had 12 million total votes cast for her. Trump has had 10 million total votes cast for him.

Who of the Cruz or anti-Trump faction stays home that voted in the Republican primary? Who of the Bernie or anti-Hillary faction stays home that voted in the Democratic primary? Who goes toward a third party? Could we see significant results for BOTH a Libertarian Party candidate and a Green Party candidate?

Lots of unanswered questions remain.

But if a secondary question is "Do you take a Trump presidency as serious as a heart attack in a way you absolutely didn't 12 months ago?" Then the answer is an unequivocal "Yes."

Trump competed with a field of 17. Hillary competed with a field of 2.

Trump competed with a field of 17. Hillary competed with a field of 2.

Sure.

The Democratic primary has been a contest between two competing visions for the direction of the party.

The Republican primary has been somewhat similar. Both Trump and Cruz have represented deviations from the norm. But that third element, the establishment element, has been in there as well.

If anything, that makes Trump's math even more complicated as he has to contend with elements of the establishment that don't trust him and the elements of the more conservative coalition that backed Cruz and don't like him.

I've seen those predictions and they are all over the place, there is no consensus opinion so I don't see it happening as the Democrats do not have a strong enough nominee and no one is going to tie their career to her if they do take the Senate. Certainly can't say that the "odds are that the Senate flips". I see it as status quo with minor movement. House is safe. It's going to be hunker down for four years territory no matter who is president.

AHCA will be attacked no matter who is president. 2017 is going to see massive premium increases as various regulations expire and kick in. That was planned so as not to affect the 2016 election.

Tax code will not change materially whoever is president as both nominees have strong ties to Wall Street which will be affected by any changes. Same goes for corporate interests.

Domestic job growth, won't matter who is president.

Agree on the SNAP and other assistance, they will benefit more under Clinton as no cuts will be made.

Who thought even a month ago, that it would be Trump that clinched, and Hillary going to a contested convention.

The Key for Trump is to get Cruz voters and to a lesser amount Rubio voters. Republican Primaries/Caucuses generated more votes than Democrat Primaries/Caucuses in 28 out of 39 states that I could find the totals for. If Trump caries those states alone he wins on the Electoral College.

I don't know if Trump will get that support or not...

Trump is still short of the 1237 he needs, even though his competition is almost all gone, and Clinton is on a glideslope to getting all the delegates she needs, despite Sanders' prayers. So, neither of those things are true as it stands now.

Correct. Clinton is closer to clinching than Trump is.

Clinton only needs 15% of the remaining outstanding delegates to clinch and the Dem races are proportional. In other words, Bernie has to get 85% or more of the vote in the remaining races to keep Hillary from clinching.

Trump needs 36.5% of the remaining delegates to clinch. In winner-take-all races he is pretty safe though based on current polling.

Both Hillary and Trump are virtual locks to win but Hillary is even more of a lock than Trump.
