It will depend on the viewer. If you like entertaining sound bites and attacks, Trump is going to deliver. If you want a knowledgeable intelligent answer to a question, Hillary will crush him.

She lost nearly every debate with Sanders trying to be intelligent and knowledgeable...is she going to get smarter between now and September?

 

I agree that if Trump does the same routine in the fall debates he did during most of the GOP debates, that it will not work for him.

 

I think we see a flip of the two, I look for Clinton to be the louder and more aggressive debater in the fall.

Hillary ... I would emphasize to Putin that we will not tolerate his macho games and will stand by our NATO allies in defending our interests across the globe. We and our allies will meet force with force where necessary, and institute financial and economic sanctions.

 

Trump ... I will tell that little liar that he is a punk and if he doesn't straighten up I'll punch him in the nose.

Politico reported Monday on a Florida poll conducted for a business group in the state that shows Hillary Clinton beating Donald Trump by 13 points and Ted Cruz by nine.

 

Why is that important? Because if Clinton wins Florida and carries the 19 states (plus D.C.) that have voted for the Democratic presidential nominee in each of the last six elections, she will be the 45th president. It's that simple.

 

Here's the underlying math. If Clinton wins the 19 states (and D.C.) that every Democratic nominee has won from 1992 to 2012, she has 242 electoral votes. Add Florida's 29 and you get 271. Game over.

 

The Republican map - whether with Trump, Cruz or the ideal Republican nominee (Paul Ryan?) as the standard-bearer - is decidedly less friendly. There are 13 states that have gone for the GOP presidential nominee in each of the last six elections. But they only total 102 electorate votes. That means the eventual nominee has to find, at least, 168 more electoral votes to get to 270. Which is a hell of a lot harder than finding 28 electoral votes.

 

Many Republicans - particularly in Washington - are already preparing to blame a loss this fall, which many of them view as inevitable, on the divisiveness of Trump. That's not entirely fair to Trump, though.

The Democratic primary has been a contest between two competing visions for the direction of the party.

 

The Republican primary has been somewhat similar. Both Trump and Cruz have represented deviations from the norm. But that third element, the establishment element, has been in there as well.

 

If anything, that makes Trump's math even more complicated as he has to contend with elements of the establishment that don't trust him and the elements of the more conservative coalition that backed Cruz and don't like him.

 

Trump's Trade position will resonate heavily in the rust belt states of PA, OH, and MI. His positions on women's issues are to the left of any recent GOP candidate. Trump opposes foreign intervention, Hillary champions it. Trump champions anti-establishment sentiment, Hillary IS the establishment. Trump believes the 1% should have more tax responsibility. Hillary, will continue to tax us working stiffs who have not had a raise in decades. Sanders voters come over to Trump in the General.

Trump's big dilemma in the debates is going to be how to attack Hillary. It will be a real challenge for him to handle this properly or he will antagonize even more women by looking like a bully picking on a woman. If Hillary keeps her cool and refrains from responding to his typical attacks with attacks, it could turn very badly for the Donald.

 

If I am advising Trump, I tell him no personal attacks. Focus the attacks on the policies and institutions that Hillary represents.

Hillary IMO won't keep her cool, she will be seething behind a fake smile just like Colonel Jessup on the witness stand. Thinking that Donald is beneath her, she'll be mad that she is even having to debate him. I fully expect a "I ordered the Code Red" moment out of her.

Forget about style points or insulting "Lyin' Ted" monikers that resonated with Trump supporters in the primaries. The next round of debates will be about substance. Mrs. Clinton will chew up Trump and spit him out for one simple reason: She's informed; Trump isn't.
