It is Trump vs. Hillary and Hillary couldn't even beat Bernie in Indiana. On top of that, if Hillary was nearly anyone else in the world she would be under Federal Indictment.

 

I am not trying to pick on Hillary, what I am saying is from the outside looking in on politics Donald Trump looks like the next President of the United States.

 

How are YOU doing wrapping your head around it?

Hillary has had 12 million total votes cast for her. Trump has had 10 million total votes cast for him.

 

Who of the Cruz or anti-Trump faction stays home that voted in the Republican primary? Who of the Bernie or anti-Hillary faction stays home that voted in the Democratic primary? Who goes toward a third party? Could we see significant results for BOTH a Libertarian Party candidate and a Green Party candidate?

 

Lots of unanswered questions remain.

 

But if a secondary question is "Do you take a Trump presidency as serious as a heart attack in a way you absolutely didn't 12 months ago?" Then the answer is an unequivocal "Yes."

Hillary is an awful Presidential candidate, but I just don't see Trump's electoral path to the White House.

I'm using the fool proof method of denial and alcohol.

 

Though, I think Clinton is easily the favorite to win. It would be an uphill battle for any Republican in the Electoral College and Trump is the most disliked candidate in the modern era. Granted, I thought his candidacy would be a flash in the pan in the primaries, but whatever the concoction of voter angst, his media/entertainment savvy, and a crowded, underwhelming field made him bulletproof.

 

At any rate, he's frighteningly close to the presidency and Clinton his hardly a stalwart. The course of events over the next six months could easily upend the conventional wisdom again. On the other hand, he still has to be the nominee, and if a bookie would offer me the right odds that the Republicans would change the rules and pull the rug out from under him I would take the bet.

How am I wrapping my head around it? I'm preparing for the worst. I'm getting my affairs in order and preparing to just keep my head down and grind out thepotential 4-8 years of insanity. I'm expecting the plight of the working man to significantly deteriorate. I'm expecting upheaval in foreign affairs. I'm expecting the fat cats and big business to accelerate plans to put profits for shareholders above sustainable livings for workers. I expect a wholesale attack on the poor, the immigrant population, and women's rights.

 

On the other hand, I'm fairly certain that if Trump becomes POTUS, the interminable obstructionism in DC continues and stymies his plans.

 

In the end, despite all the hopes to the contrary, Trump will be no more able to implement his full platform anymore than President Obama.

Still think it will be Romney vs Biden. Cruz will be Romney's VP.

I agree with a lot of this. My biggest concern with Trump is foreign affairs but you have listed a lot of the other concerns we should all have. It'll be like we are getting closer to New World Order.

Exactly. No matter who our next president is they will be a very weak one with no real ability to push through their agendas. On the domestic front I think either one would be a push due to a lack of power. On the international front I believe Trump would do much more long term harm to the US.
