April 1, 201610 yr Maybe this means that some academics won't be able to take sabaticals after their grueling schedule. Heaven forbid they may actually have to "GASP" actually work a 12 month schedule with no extended breaks. How much endowment money do the states universities have?
April 1, 201610 yr Higher ed is ran inefficiently across the board. We've talked on this site about multiple issues causing this. Item #1 being the federal governments blank check through student loans. Higher ed needs to reevaluate how things are ran and areas to be more efficient. In the private sector larger cuts are made all the time and companies or divisions need to be more efficient. The problem with the higher ed model is they know they can just raise tuition and the feds blank check is still there . So they aren't forced to make any changes. I think budget cuts is a good first step. But it needs to be followed up with good efficiency mechanisms to make sure waste can be reduced.
