A thoroughly entertaining thread from an 8th region guy's perspective! It sounds like a disconnect certainly exists in Ft. Thomas, and lines have been drawn. That is unfortunate for the kids. I'm glad we don't have these type of issues in the Oldham County school systems. I would still have to wonder about losing by 60 points, unless it is the Piarist School or Covington Latin and their unique situations.

What I find funny here is that you have a guy that played 30 plus years ago trying to make comparisons. You have another guy who has not had a kid in the program for some time still taking jabs at the prior coaching staff. You have another idiot that knows absolutely nothing about sports in general that for some odd reason still makes one stupid post after another.

 

Kevin Listerman will do just fine over time. Just a few short years ago, Jeremy Baioni went through the exact same type of thing when he took over. The reason the season started late is because the program is full of football players right now. Many of those same kids played AAU basketball from the time they were 8 until through their frosh year of high school.

 

Love that they should get rid of all the football kids, well guess what? They would not have a team. A coach can only do so much, he cannot play the game for them.

 

I can use the back in the day talk as well, but it really means nothing in today's game of basketball. I would bet that many that played back in the day would not even see the floor nowadays because the game has changed that much.

 

Rome was not built in a day, it will take time for Kevin and staff to change the culture and when it does I would expect that the wins will come.

The difference though is that CCH got better - not great but certainly better and more competitive.

 

Plus it only takes two good ballers and some nice athletes to be competitive. This is why I can't figure out how Highlands not only gets beat by 60 but only scores 30 against subs. 5th time this year scoring either in the 20s or 30s.

 

I have only watched HHS play once this year. I thought they were decent - much better than this.

Those are disturbing numbers/trends for Highlands. I was not aware of those statistics. You are correct, one or two good players can lead a high school basketball team to competitive levels at the least with a decent supporting cast. Your numbers from today regarding minutes indicates Covington Catholic called off the dogs or this one might have been a score of historic proportions.

Probably as close to an accurate assessment of the program. In regards to this group of junior and seniors yes they played some very good AAU ball since they were very young. IF ,and let's face it this is a fantasy statement, this group were not football players and focused on basketball the development of this group would be completely different. And Ben Weyer was on those AAU teams as well.

CVH had 19.

Aiden R had 11.

CJ had 9.

Ross Bassford had 8 which I will assume is a career high. Congrats to him.

Hunter Ziegelmeyer had 8 which could be a career high for him.

 

Jake Walter had 6 boards to lead the Colonels. Frosh Jack Davin had 5 boards.

 

CCH shot 31/52 (59%) overall.

JOAT, hoped to meet you today and introduce myself, sorry that didn't occur. I've appreciated your posts this season, especially due to the rather tough circumstances you've had to face. The boys played hard today, they just don't have horses or the height yet, but you're right, Rome wasn't built in a day.

Coaches and parents will always be there for any program, but will their friends and neighbors be there? CovCath, NCC, Brossart, Holy Cross, Cooper and Holmes has tremendous support across the board and that enthusiasm is contagious. It's why guys like Stowers, Mitchell, Lorenzen and others came to Highlands back then. Better talent can change a program, but without administrative and neighborhood support in the stands, good players and coaches will keep leaving
