Covington Catholic 90 Highlands 30

Featured Replies

Highlands has a great athletic program. It's a great school and great community. As is Cov Cath. But he said "a bit more" which is hard not to agree with.

Golf - Cov Cath

Cross Country - I can safely say I have no idea. I know CCH has at least one state title. But has spent a lot of the time over the years in AAA while Highlands has been AA. But not sure who has been better.

Soccer - has been pretty even but Cov Cath with the state title gives them the nod.

Football - Highlands.

Swimming - I'd say Cov Cath is the #2 program in the state.

Basketball - Cov Cath by a lot as of the last 5 or so years. But was much more competitive before that.

Tennis - Cov Cath has something like 15+ straight regional titles. I think Highlands is in a different region but CCH has been better over the years.

Baseball - outside of the past two years, Cov Cath has been a much better program. Although it has been a while since their last regional championship. But are still the last NKY school to win state.

Track - Cov Cath has something like 19 regional championships the last 20 years. Highlands has a more recent state championship and has been very good. But over the years Cov Cath has been better and more consistent. Although Highlands has had some really good teams.

Highlands should be put in AAA not AA with there enrollment close to 1000.

Highlands is undefeated !

I did not look up the stats so please forgive me in advance if this is incorrect....

I believe that CCH is undefeated and Highlands is winless.

So you just dump the seniors who have given it their all for the last couple of years?

So have "seniors" not earned the time? You at practice every day? Who says anything about "entitlement"?

You are correct, entitlement was not mentioned. This being said, I am curious to know what it should be called IF the younger kids are actually better than the seniors, and could make a difference, but are not being played ahead of the seniors.

If your son was one of the underclassman that was not seeing many minutes, but was better than the seniors, would you be OK with the "seniors" having earned the time approach?

I guess it is a good thing that CCH does not seem to subscribe to this philosophy, their Varsity would not be as good this season, but boy.... we would have a few Sophomores to talk about for next season.

There is no "entitlement" at any program at Highlands. You earn your way in sports and academics, period!

The issue here is "who thinks they are better?" Just because you may have some nice underclassmen, it doesn't mean they are ready to compete like others. Coaches see their kids everyday. During the season, sometimes more than their own parents! They are the ONLY ones equipped with the right information on who should be playing. There are A LOT of factors that go into playing time.

Good response and spot on. You beat me to it. Just another mouth from outside the circle that likes to try and stir the pot about something they know little to nothing about.

This may actually be my last day of posting on here because the idiots seem to be running the asylum. There is no longer discussion of games rather it is to see if potshots can be taken.

SK fan or whatever you want to call him makes a post asking to hear from me and why should I post anything so that we can hear the same jibberish minute after minute, hour after hour, day after day. It has gotten old and it is time for me to move on and let the know it alls have to the site.

Let's not lose our mind. That bunch would not be top 5 or 6. Come on.

Ok, quick disclaimer: When I said this I meant 9th region and not NKY, that was a slip up, although I don't think the 10th is having a great year, so allow me a slight mea culpa for that and the fact that CCH's rotation has moved a bit throughout the year, so for the purpose of brevity, lets just say CCH's bench.

So, moving on, If your Top 5 or 6 in the 9th REGION, according to current rankings are:

1. CCH

2. Cooper

3. NCC

4. Holy Cross

5. Conner

Then I absolutely think CCH's "second group" would DEFINATELY fit in the group below these with Dixie, Newport, Bellevue and yes, even Holmes, who I believe to be very down this year.

So, I am admitting mistake on Region vs Nky, but not backing down on that CovCath's bench would absolutely fit in the 6 hole after the top 5 above and likely play with the #5

I don't think that is "Losing my mind"

A potential lineup of Heppler, Walter, Davin, Schuh, and Ziegelmeyer or whomever is on the bench and not getting significant playing time now would certainly compete with those teams mentioned above AFTER the top 4.

I am not sold on any team in this region outside of the big 4. (CCH, NCC, Cooper, HC)

Your saying these 5 beat Conner, Scott, Brossart, and Campbell Co?

I made a mistake on saying NKY when I meant 9th region. Do I think CCH's bench would be the 5th or 6th ranked team in NKY, Yes, I absolutely do.

That means they would be there with Dixie, Newport, Bellevue, Beechwood, and Holmes.

I do believe they would beat all of these teams. This is not a vintage Holmes team. They have some bad losses by large margins. The other teams need no explanations for.

Jeez, I just did it again....I meant 9th Region and not NKY. Damn. Bad morning but I still stick to my general premise. Struggling today on the keyboard. :)

Doesn't matter. 11 thru 15 are not a top team. Period.

We seem to be not arguing the same thing, but in the ballpark, so I'll continue to dialogue on the matter.

I am not talking about players 11-15 because 11-15 has changed throughout the course of the year at times.

I also did not say they were a "top" team. CCH bench would NOT beat anyone in the top 4.

Here is what I am emphatically saying and I'll leave it at this:

CCH's bench (players not logging significant minutes at this time, maybe players 8-15) would form a team that would beat the likes of Dixie, Newport, Bellevue, Holmes (record 11-13), and everyone behind them. These are teams that are currently ranked RIGHT outside the top 5. I originally said they would be a top 5 or 6 team.

That is what I will stick by.

Sorry, I just don't see CCH bench losing to Dixie, or Newport, or whomever is down the line.

The difference between the response from RCC9 and the Private Message I got from you says a lot.... your message can't be read because of all the Word Filter Violations.

I have already tried explaining to you once before... just because someone is asking a question it is not always being directed at YOU personally... you should quit taking it that way.

OK on the NKY/9th Region confusion, I still don't see these kids beating the 6-10 teams in the 9th. I can see them keeping it competitive... and pulling off some wins.... but not consistantly beating them.

Football became king and there have not been enough "basketball only" kids to sustain it.

Highlands' first game of the season was December 19th. Need any further explanation???

With that being said, the Birds have a nice crop of youngsters whose Number One sport is basketball. IF they stay in the program and continue to succeed, by the time they get to the varsity level there could be a rise to prominence.

Ben Weyer, the 9th Region KABC Player of the Year, started at Highlands, saw the writing on the wall, jumped ship and went to NCC, where he has had a fine career and will play his college ball at Bellarmine.

I am sure that basketball was not the overriding factor in the family's decision for Ben to attend NCC. He would be playing at the next level regardless of where he played high school.
