June 2, 201610 yr Walked past this at the library for several weeks and decided to pick it up yesterday. The author is on Fox & Friends (strike one), but I do like the story and it is a short, easy read.
June 2, 201610 yr I've loved everything by Nathaniel Philbrick, but this one is a little tough. I'm going to finish it, but it is far from his best work. [ATTACH=CONFIG]56238[/ATTACH] After the first third of this book, which was slow and dull, the second and final thirds really picked up. I'd recommend anyone interested in Benedict Arnold, John Andre, and Revolutionary spy executions to give this a try.
June 3, 201610 yr Just finished reading Tolkien's "The Simarillion" for the third time. After struggling to get through it the first time, I'm really appreciating it more for succeeding at precisely what it aims to do, which is be an ancient chronicle for a race that never existed. As good as LOTR and The Hobbit are, The Silmarillion is the real showpiece for just how brilliant and complete a world-creator Tolkien was. Started Bernard Malamud's "The Natural" last night. Saw the movie years ago. Never read the book before.

June 7, 201610 yr Just finished the Jack Reacher short stories. Second Son Deep Down High Heat Not a Drill Small Wars And Jack Reacher's Rules. The new novel, Night School, comes out in November, so I guess I'm done with Reacher for a while.
June 8, 201610 yr " Hillary, the Other Woman" by Dolly Kyle. I have a feeling this is going to be a best seller.
