Twelve of Northern Kentucky's 18 high school football teams would be guaranteed playoff spots before the season begins, under a proposed realignment unveiled Monday by the Kentucky High School Athletic Association.

 

Even an 0-10 record would be enough.

The change, which will expand the system from four classes to six classes beginning in 2007, was designed to include most of the state's teams in the postseason. But it's difficult to find a single area football coach who's happy about the change.

 

"We voted on this as a coaches association, and it was unanimous 18-0 that we didn't want it in Northern Kentucky," Simon Kenton coach Jeff Marksberry said. "I think we're just happy with how things are now. We feel like we compete.

Also what about CovCath in 4A and Highlands remaining in 3A? I think that may dampen the rivalry a tad. It will still be a huge game, but with no playoff meeting homefield to decide, it becomes less of a must see.

Numbers. If they want even classes and schools continue to consolidate, schools will lose the option of playing up.

I can't imagine CCH is too excited about this. They currently have 3 district games which allows 7 non-districts. I'm guessing they make pretty good money on their non-district games. Now , in addition to extra travel, they will lose one of those money-making games.

Looks like 6 class system completly dilutes competition. Bad idea 4 class system works great

He said he talked to a couple coaches... dont know what that means though. His stance is that they should have went to 3 classes, rather than expand to 6. I disagree with him on this. I thought with him being a graduate of Dixie he would have an understanding of Ky football.....guess not.

You all forget about this. He knows the landscape. All Northern Kentucky Coaches voted against the 6 classes.
