Wow Danville edges out X by one point. Sounds like X should have beat T one more time haha.

Danville's district title this year did if for them.

I was waiting to see the difference in points between #6 and #5. Pretty interesting and then a huge jump in points between 5 and 4.

5. Danville Admirals (212 points)

Playoff Wins: 93

District Championships: 30

State Final Losses: 3

State Championships: 10 (1962, 1984, 1987, 1989, 1991, 1992, 1994, 2000, 2001, 2003)

4. Beechwood Tigers (241 points)

Playoff Wins: 109

District Championships: 31

State Final Losses: 5

State Championships: 11 (1984, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1996, 1997, 1999, 2004, 2007, 2008)

3. Mayfield Cardinals (292 points)

Playoff Wins: 123

District Championships: 41

State Final Losses: 9

State Championships: 12 (1977, 1978, 1985, 1986, 1993, 1995, 2002, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015)

I'm good with that.

X getting knocked out in the first round in 2001 hurt their playoff win total.

Surprised at the gap between 3 and 4 and 4 and 5. I had pegged Beechwood around 6th at the start this week so am pleased they ended up higher.

Mayfield right where they should be. I think the gap between 3 and 4 is the biggest gap on the board, yet.

That caught me off guard, too. The gap between 3-4 is wider than the gap between 2-3. If you factor in all-time wins, there is absolute reason to include Mayfield in discussions about best programs in the state.

I know the following has been discussed in the past but worthy of mentioning one more time...

At the time we are starting to give credit or points for this poll (1959) - Highlands already had 157 years in existence as a school / 103 years in existence for Louisville Male / and 95 years in existence for St Xavier.

Trinity was only around for 6 years at the start of this poll. I know we are using the same sample size to reward points but you have to admit - a school as powerful as Highlands, Male and X - open for a hundred years or more with a longer line of tradition or foundation, an outsider would be very surprised to see Trinity so high in this poll compared to the other schools.

No matter who you cheer for - you have to admit what the Shamrocks have accomplished is more than impressive. Especially in the short amount of time the doors have been opened compared to other traditional powers.

Even better, I still believe the school continues to evolve academically and in the sports arena (new weight facility, basketball state championship, commitment to baseball, etc.).

Really enjoyed this poll!! Congrats to all the schools.

They had a ton of playoff wins and district championships before this run, but since 2003 it has been incredible. Coach Haywood definitely has closed out his career in style.

Testament to a school and community allowing something to become special.

At the community celebration Coach Mickey talked about the vision Coach Haywood had for Belfry when he was hired and what he thought it would become. A loyal community and staff have pushed it over the top.

There have been some rough spots and talk that the game had passed Coach Haywood by and it was time for him to go. Credit Coach Haywood for not letting that "talk" bother him and the leaders of the school and school system(Mr. Welch, Mr. Dotson, and Coach Varney) for having none of that nonsense.

Community effort, but it comes down to this, Coach Haywood was the right man at the right time, with the right people around him.....truly a remarkable career and run that isn't even close to being over yet.

How much longer to you think Coach Haywood will remain at Belfry before retiring?

2. Highlands Bluebirds (335 points)

Playoff Wins: 130

District Championships: 36

State Final Losses: 6

State Championships: 23 (1960, 1961, 1964, 1968, 1970, 1975, 1977, 1981, 1982, 1989, 1992, 1996, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2004, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014)

1. Trinity Shamrocks (335 points)

Playoff Wins: 134

District Championships: 37

State Final Losses: 4

State Championships: 23 (1968, 1972, 1973, 1976, 1977, 1980, 1983, 1985, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1994, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014)

Trinity and Highlands accumulated the exact same amount of points, therefore generating a tie. They both have won the same number of state championships. Their playoff wins and district championships are almost the same. I'm giving the nod to Trinity on the virtue of four extra playoff wins and one more district championship.
