Testament to a school and community allowing something to become special.

 

At the community celebration Coach Mickey talked about the vision Coach Haywood had for Belfry when he was hired and what he thought it would become. A loyal community and staff have pushed it over the top.

 

There have been some rough spots and talk that the game had passed Coach Haywood by and it was time for him to go. Credit Coach Haywood for not letting that "talk" bother him and the leaders of the school and school system(Mr. Welch, Mr. Dotson, and Coach Varney) for having none of that nonsense.

 

Community effort, but it comes down to this, Coach Haywood was the right man at the right time, with the right people around him.....truly a remarkable career and run that isn't even close to being over yet.

The one stat that has always amazed me about Danville's program is that (correct me if I'm wrong) they have had something like only 2 or 3 losing seasons in their history. In their history!

Out of habit during the state finals last weekend I kept thinking "when is the Highlands game" and "when is the Trinity game?"

How much longer to you think Coach Haywood will remain at Belfry before retiring?

 

We talked about this in a Belfry thread a while back and to be honest.... we don't know.

 

Any speculation revolves around two things:

1. Health

2. Moral Standard

 

Right now Coach Haywood and his beautiful wife seem to be in fine health. If something were to change for either this would have an effect.

 

The other important thing that is almost impossible to put a finger on is when will Haywood hand over the reigns based off his expectations to go out "the right way".

 

For most coaches they would want to leave only on a high note or before their talent pool dips and taking losses are almost a certainty. That is not really Haywood's style. I honestly think it would be would bother Haywood to no end if he feels like when he hands the keys to castle over that his successor is not given the very best chance to succeed.

 

2017 will be an interesting year. Belfry will lose all these Juniors and will lose most likely 9 starters on Offense and 7-8 starters on Defense. Don't feel bad for Belfry though as they have won the Middle School State Title every year since this current Junior Class and will have plenty of talent. The incoming Freshman Class is going to be special.

 

If Belfry wins their 4th straight title in 2016 it would be easy for most coaches to take that as the opportunity to walk away... for reasons given above I would be surprised to see Haywood do that knowing the obstacles of "reloading" that will be asked of the Coach in 2017 to bridge the gap to Belfry's next wave of talent.

 

The end of 2017 would make sense...but I also could see him coaching for years to come and I would 100% be fine with that.

It's pretty incredible how T and FTH finished in a dead heat in points. I figured it would be close, but man, that margin is razor thin. It's also amazing to see how far ahead of the rest of the pack those two are. The could both be "down" for a decade and probably still top this list.

Really is remarkable looking at those numbers.

 

Belfry has had a program most would envy and literally you could argue that both T and FTH are twice the program Belfry is.... that is hard to comprehend.

Trinity and Highlands accumulated the exact same amount of points, therefore generating a tie. They both have won the same number of state championships. Their playoff wins and district championships are almost the same. I'm giving the nod to Trinity on the virtue of four extra playoff wins and one more district championship.

Yes. I give full credit for victories and titles; nothing is vacated in my mind.

Recently, I will agree with you. Historically, no way. The dominance displayed over the last 10 years or so is just as dominate as Beechwood was in the 90's. 2 great football programs for sure that seem to be growing further apart at the present time and was not predicted. I think the landscape of NKY fball has changed so much that it is difficult to have year to year dominance like Highlands, NCC, and Beechwood are used to.

Mayfield right where they should be. I think the gap between 3 and 4 is the biggest gap on the board, yet.
