If I was a guy that carried everywhere, I'd probably carry anywhere, regardless of what the State of New York said. And being someone who doesn't feel the need to carry everywhere (and I've worked in NYC and worked and lived in Philly), the current events aren't going to make me a guy who's strapped all the time either.

I would go without hesitation. NYC is probably the safest place in America at the moment. It's also my favorite big city to visit during the holidays, its absolutely awesome.

 

Like @spindoc mentioned, the first time I ever visited NYC as an adult I still carried, even though I knew they didn't reciprocate with KY. This was just after 9/11. But after my first day/night there, I realized that I didn't need to and left the gun behind the rest of the week. I imagine while you are there you will see a strong police presence, but what you wont see is an even larger police presence. NYC has the best police force in the world IMO, you'll be fine.

Understandable. I just looked at it from a legal and liability standpoint on my end. I knew I was going to be doing a bit of drinking while there, did not want to put myself in a situation where I would be carrying illegally with any hint of alcohol on my breath. I don't carry anywhere if I know I'm going to be drinking.

I have a friend that works out-of-town construction who barely avoided serious trouble for carrying in NJ. Pulled over for speeding and officer asked if there were any weapons in the car. Replied he did and had the concealed permit for it. Office arrested him and the passengers in the car who spent a night in jail and narrowly avoided some serious charges.

Wouldn't NYC be the ideal target since they have a disarmed population? I don't even think cops can take weapons into stadiums off duty.

We are definitely still going just wanted some other opinions to see if we were crazy or not! Thanks guys.

You can own a gun in NYC. It's tough to get a concealed carry permit, but it is possible. On the other hand, the police presence in NYC is so large I doubt it would matter one way or another if there were an attack like what Paris experienced.

I sure wouldn't let fear control me and you don't strike me as a guy that would either. Thumb your nose at the ISIS cowards and have a great time in NYC.

For many years Beechwood's 6th grade class went on a trip to Washington D.C. A few years after 9/11, my daughter's class went. I helped chaperone the trip and it was wonderful. I had never been to Washington D.C., and probably learned more than they did.

 

There was on child who was not allowed to go because mom was worried about terrorist attacks. Nothing happened. That was over 10 years ago.

 

My point is, since 9/11, we all realize that this country is at risk, and none of us are as safe as we thought. I also believe that no one can predict what terrorists are going to do next or where it is going to happen. They threaten New York City because it is so large and scares a whole lot of people. It is what terrorists do.

 

We can't live out lives based on what might happen. It is what they want. I would go.

I love NYC. Couldn't live there, but I enjoy visiting. So many sights and sounds and smells that you can't get anywhere else, good and bad.

 

I'd go, without a question. I don't carry, just because I don't care enough. But, I'm going to go ahead and assume any sort of ISIS attack wouldn't be thwarted by a single person with a pistol.
