It is 100% Homers. Weve never thought to appeal to schools outside our area, so we grow pretty fond of our local teams. The show actually started with the idea of barber shop talk between 4 fans from all 4 Owensboro schools, but kind of turned into a show where we try to highlight as many kids as possible from around the 3rd region area. We just have fun with it and the kids, parents and coaches all seem to love it. Thanks for listening!!

As for the game...I think the Aces obviously roll into this matchup as the underdog. On the road vs the #1 team in the state who never looses at home is a tall task. I cant claim to know a ton about Mayfield other than what i can see on Hudl, but i do think Catholic stands a decent chance in this one.

 

Two things i really like for Catholic in this matchup.....their run D vs Mayfield's running game & their passing attack vs Mayfield's DB's. Ill start with the run D. While a bit undersized, Catholic has two absolute studs in John Mark Boarman and Nick Blair at the linebacker spot. Michael Mills is a DB who flies around all over the field and is very underrated. He was phenomenal in run support a week ago. The Aces do a great job of getting multiple hats on the ball. They were out sized two to one vs Murray and i felt like they dominated the line of scrimmage. I also feel like Catholic can present a ton of problems when they pass the football. RZIII is one of the best QB's in the state. He was absolutely locked in vs Murray and i expect much of the same from him going forward. He distributes the ball to 3-4 different WR's that know their exact roles in the offense. He makes good quick decisions that makes them very difficult to defend. Even when he is pressured, he does a great job of extending plays with his feet, while keeping his eyes up field. I also believe Shamari Morton will be the best athlete on the field Friday. Shamari has REALLY elevated his play lately. He has 10 touchdowns in the last 3 games and i am expecting him to continue this trend. Jonathan Garner is the X factor for Catholic at the RB spot. He has been a great dual threat out of the backfield. If Catholic protects the ball and plays smart football, i think they can win going away...

I know this is a different season, but the last 4 years, Murray owned OC. And guess what, Mayfield dominated Murray each of those years.

 

It was good to see OC get the monkey (Murray) off their back. But now they have to contend with the 800 pound gorilla in the room.

I talked to folks who watched the Murray/OC game. I was told that

1. Murray made no adjustments the entire game that would have been effective.

 

Mayfield's specialty is adjustments

 

2. Murray quit playing when they got down.

 

Mayfield gets more ferocious when they get down....just ask Murray.

I bleed red and black and will be pulling for the Cards to come out of this one, but, I also know it'll be very tough and they'll have to play a solid game to come out on top. From a sheer talent standpoint, I'd call these 2 pretty even.. I would give Mayfield the advantage in the team speed dept., at running back w/Bright, Caldwell, Tyler, at LB and in the kicking game.. I'd give OBC the advantage at QB, the DL and the overall passing game.. That's not to say I think they have better WRs because both teams have 3 or 4 good ones, just think OBC utilizes theirs a little better thru out the course of a game..

00Rocket28, don't sweat it.. I've been reading your comments for several years now and for the most part you've always given Mayfield a lot of credit, respect and praise.. Now, that one year that CC beat us twice in the same season, you did get a little obnoxious, but, can't blame you.. That was a great year for the Rockets..
