Would really like to hear from a Murray fan on their thoughts of these two... I know Bright didn't play against Murray but based on what little I've read and heard from others. Murray basically shot themselves in the foot with turnover deep in Mayfield territory and a couple of dropped would be TD passes. Again.. just heard this second hand so would like to hear Murray's thoughts.

 

The Murray game is a tale of 2 halves, the first half MF was totally dominated by Murray and only managed 2 first downs. At the half to be tied at 7 was very fortunate for MF. MF switched running backs and flipped the tables dominating Murray every bit as much and then some in the second half. That said obviously I am not a Murray guy and I too would like to hear from some of them.

OC was missing a starting OL/DL and then had another kid emerge as good DL that did not play against Daviess Co.

 

Thanks for that info. Watching that Daviess film and comparing it to the box scores from OC's recent games, something wasn't adding up. Makes sense now.

I haven't seen either team, but I admit I was shocked when I read the thread of the OC/Murray game. Sounds like they totally dismantled the Tigers. For the Mayfield fans, would you consider this your toughest game of the season to this point other than McCracken?

 

I would say yes.. Not sure if OB Cath. has the overal talent or depth of a Tilghman, Graves or Corbin, but, I think they'll be a tougher matchup because of their ability to throw the ball.. Teams that primarily run the ball hasn't had a lot of luck vs the Cardinals, but, teams that could mix it up like McCracken gave them fits.. OBC certainly has the ability to throw it around.. For Mayfield to win this game, the secondary will need to play well and the DL will need to keep pressure on the QB.. If the QB is allowed to sit back in the pocket, he'll pick them apart. I will say the same for OBC though.. They'll need to get pressure on Arnett or he'll pick them apart, as well..

Mayfield all the way, OC has a very nice team, but Mayfield is at the top of the mountain. Look for Mayfield to win by 10

OC has a pretty balanced attack. They do run the ball. They have a 1200 yard rusher. Ask Murray.... It broke their will in the 2nd half when OC keep running the ball and getting 1st downs on them.

IF they have nobody going both ways for a long period of time in the game, then watch out. I was told Mayfield has about 5-6 players going both ways. Is this true? IF so, it could make a difference cause Murray got tired.

The Top of the mountain in 1a and 2a are 2 totally different animals.. The Cards have a lot to prove to be 2a's Top Dawgs and this week's game is where it starts..

They could very well be the underdogs from here out.. They have the talent to win it all and may very well do so, but, at the same time, they could play well and still lose in any of the next 3 games.. That's the difference in 1a and 2a.. In 1a, if they played well, their was very little chance they'd lose..

Mayfield only has 2 or 3 that start both ways, but, they do have 2 or 3 other kids that play some on both sides.. They haven't shown fatique since early in the year when it was still in the 90's and the humidity was way up there and even then, they weren't or at least didn't look at fatiqued as the other team..

Mayfield always plays players both ways and has lost 6 games in 6 seasons.... That tell you anything ?

Not saying it will. Mayfield is obvisouly very well coached, talented, and has kids with a championship pedigree. I'm just here to let you know this Owensboro Catholic team is good and they went into Rash Stadium and took OHS toe to toe and by all accounts outplayed them on offense and defense just not on special teams. Mayfield will not intimidate this OC team and I don't believe the atmosphere will either. OC will bring a great fan base down. I can't wait to see this game. Neither one of these teams know very much about each other but I think this OC team will enjoy the underdog role and give Mayfield all they want.

The DC game gets brought up a lot and I truly believe OC is at least 4TDs better then DC. The Aces just didn't come ready to play and they got beat. It was probably the worst game we have played in a couple years.

 

If you fast forward to the Murray game the Aces look completely different. Morton is more of a focal point and the running game has really been fantastic. I do think Mayfield is the favorite but I think the Aces have a punchers chance.

Mayfield is an outlier and can do things most schools their size can't in regards to football. But how many 1A schools have they faced in that 6 years that didn't also have players playing both ways. While Mayfield can and has won against teams that don't have players going both ways, it is an advantage for the schools that can do it. It is a luxury and advantage that the bigger schools have over smaller schools.

It is not as if we played a schedule full of 1A teams. The only 1A teams we played were in the district and playoffs. I would wager money that in most of our 1A years, the schedule we played was more difficult than the schedule played by 90% of 2A teams.
