The arrogance from the Mayfield contingent. Wow.

 

Is it always like that?

There is a thin line between arrogance and confidence. I can promise you us Mayfield fans are not arrogant. With our resume of 11 state titles, appearing in the last 6 state games winning 4 of them, and 5th in the nation all time wins it jus boils down to us being confident in our team. Especially with this game being played at home when we have only lost 1 game in 40 something games at home. So jus because we like our chances doesn't mean we don't respect OC or any other team that we play.

OC see's a spread every day in practice, so trying to stop the run in the spread is not out of the ordinary with them, although Bright is a special RB and it will be more challenging. Based on what I see OC's defense is very versatile being able to hop in and out against different looks with really changing their personnel. Daviess County had a great gameplan and OC was playing some different DL in that game that don't play currently. Also, it was 2nd ever game for their starting freshmen DE and Soph OLB against a senior heavy Daviess County team.

 

OC plays seniors at QB, RB, and 2 WR positions and 1 OL. They play 1 SR DL, MLB, and 2 senior DB's. Very experienced in some spots and young in others, which I believe Mayfield is very similar looking at their roster. Can't wait for this game... Also for some of you Mayfield fans getting upset at @devils58 and ApolloFan, keep in mind their show is called "The Homer's".

Haha that's hilarious. I do think there is merit to what Rambo mentioned. Any team that can use their starting defense as a scout team has a built in advantage.

 

As for Mayfield fans, they are supremely confident, as they should be. The reason the program has had the success it has, its because of the support of the fans and community. Losing is not acceptable, and an environment of hard work, dedication, and high expectations feeds into the machine. I don't see them as arrogant at all. Besides, what Mayfield has done is remarkable considering the size of the community. Heck I've never known Mayfield to get a slew of transfers or kids that magically appear in the hallways. They seem to do it the right way, which is something that is a dying way nowadays.

Now, that one year that CC beat us twice in the same season, you did get a little obnoxious, but, can't blame you.. That was a great year for the Rockets..

I have nothing but respect for OC, especially after beating Murray. I do feel better about this game at home but Mayfield is gonna have to bring their "A" game to win this. A lot were saying that we faced the best QB against Butler last friday night but it's sounding like we are gonna be facing an even tougher one this friday night. I thought the Butler kid was really good, just didn't get the time he needed to throw the ball.

One question devils58. All the bigger schools say they have an advantage by not playing guys both ways. Some OC fans have been saying only 1 OC guy plays both ways, while Mayfield plays 4 or 5 both ways.

OC and Mayfield both run the same "system" but with their own tweaks. I think he is implying that this can only help the defense this week. The more I get a chance to see highlights of Mayfield the better they look. Your going to see 2 very similar teams on Friday. Undersized, discipline, and flying to the ball on defense... And a nice spread attack where OC takes what you give them in the passing game, Mayfield does that in the running game. I can't wait to see the environment down there. Turnovers, penalties, and the big play will determine this one. I don't see much of an overall advantage to either team, IMO.

I think what he is saying is that going good vs good is an advantage.

OC only has 1 guy going both ways might be good vs some people, but it might be bad vs Mayfield. Catholic will play up to 28-29 players. In many sports it's all about match-ups. If Catholic can match up with Mayfield Speed and size and not have to play alot both ways, but rotate those 29 players then it could help beat Mayfield. DOES this mean they will win cause of this? NO, Can it help? Yes. The real fans at OC respect Mayfield and know and understand their tradition they have, but this Owensboro Catholic team will not walk into War Memorial Stadium and be scared of Mayfield's tradition.

It's been a long time since OC played Mayfield. I think they will be scared next year.

There is a reason I haven't predicted a score, and thats because I honestly don't know whats going to happen Friday night. While I feel like MF has an edge being at home, the big play capabilities of OC are what even it up, or make it close. I don't think either team will get blown out. No more than a 10 point swing either way.
