Strong's job

Featured Replies

Is Strong gone tonight? I seriously wouldn't be surprised. The Longhorn faithful can't be happy with all that's happened and being down 37-0 to TCU isn't settling the majority of them. Texas is about to be 1-4; many felt that Coach Strong couldn't lose over 4 or 5 this season to keep his job.

I don't think he's gone after this game. But yes, he's gone at some point this season.

I swear I was coming to make this same thread. No way he is there next season and I could see him being fired as soon as today. He never had a chance.

Start of that game today was painful to watch. Less than 6 minutes in and it was basically over.

I blame the Texas fan base and administration for this.

Firing Strong isn't going to fix anything. The turn around is still going to take some time (I think?).

This program wasn't broke when the wolves came out for Mack Brown's head as is. This is a program that 10 years ago was the National Champion under him, and was the National Runner Up almost 6 years ago. The next four years? A five win season, two eight win seasons and a 9 win season which included two bowl wins (one in the Alamo, one in the Holiday Bowl...not BCS, but the next tier of highly respected bowls). Talk about a "What have you done for me today?". Sheesh.

The fan base and and administration wanted change, well, they didn't want change bad enough. Because as much as they might have wanted change in other areas (be it in discipline, academics, etc), the only area that actually matters is W-L.

This whole situation reminds of Kragthorpe taking over Louisville after Petrino left. Yeah, the fan base (some) wanted to see things cleaned up, but not at the expense of winning. This same thing is happening to Strong.

For what it's worth, wasn't Kiffin fired in his 3rd year or so at USC after Arizona dropped 60+ on them in a loss at Arizona or somebody like that early in the season?

Two valuable lessons to be learned here IMO:

1) Be careful what you wish for (UT admin and fans)

2) The grass isn't always greener on the other side (Strong leaving Louisville for Texas)

No chance he coaches at Texas next season.

He may not finish the season.

How so? Lack of talent, lack of coaching ability (no Teddy to hide deficiencies) or lack of acceptance by boosters from the beginning?

All of the above.

I know it's not going to happen, but given the choice would UofL fans wants Strong back as their coach, or do you prefer Petrino?

He was meant to take a middle tier team and recruit them up. Taking a power job has overwhelmed him.

At this point, I'm sticking with Petrino.

I'm good with Petrino...

Now that he's gone, it's really easy to forget Strong's shortcomings at Louisville. He had Teddy Bridgewater -- probably the most talented QB to ever play at Louisville -- and he still ran that boring offense. Special teams play was always terrible.

The ceiling for Petrino is sky-high given his history. We'll see what happens with him but I think we can stick with our guy.

I think Strong should be given more time but I know he won't get it. Texas has sucked for a while but this rock bottom right now.
