September 25, 201511 yr It seems to me that the main reason for the resignation is Boehner is tired of dealing with the Tea Party faction. They wanted him gone and were plotting a coup so Boehner chose to make a budget deal and move on. This could get ugly in the Republican Party.

The bottom line the Republican party had dominated the House and Senate over the last 5 years because of a ground swell support for certain ideas. While I like Boehner the man and most of his career. He didn't listen to the voters who put him in leadership on some issues.

It is fun to watch though, since the Republican party is simply being hoisted on their own petards. My take is that it goes back to Newt. Newt and his GOPAC committee counseled Republican candidates to use words like "traitor" and "evil" when describing Democrats. And it worked, ...to a point, and is now coming back to haunt the Republican party. They won elections and got the majority by demonizing their opponents. (newt's words) Newt said it was a civil war and it had to be won with savagery. And, if that is how you win, that is what you get. Coupled with the fractioning of news and media, where people can freely get nothing but biased information, and gerrymandering, the Republican party has given birth to a group that is incapable of governing, unless you count burning down everything as governing. Newt is Dr. Frankenstein, creating his monster, and now the monster is tearing up the Republican countryside.
September 26, 201511 yr Interesting revisiting of history there Mayfield. I guess the parts from D's accusing R's of poisoning the water supply and feeding Grandma dog food and running rough shot over the R party was Ok with you ? Or is it only the R party that plays dirty politics ?
