I don't think it'll come to this as I believe Boehner will willingly stay on until House Republicans can whip up enough votes for a replacement.

 

It's interesting that House rules say the speaker is supposed to present to the clerk a list of people that then become a sort order of succession in case there's a vacancy. The clerk has acknowledged that the list exists but didn't disclose the first name on it.

 

Hilariously, the speculation from folks is that the first name is probably Rep. McCarthy. Whoops.

That's certainly my assumption. I don't think there's anyone that can get there from either faction, off the top of my head. I imagine the Democrats could choose to be disruptive here too.

Rumors are he dropped out for alleged indiscretions. Letter going around by NC rep who said to all, but everyone intimates it's McCarthy he is addressing, that no one should run if they have skeletons.

I don't thing any of the big names will throw their hat into the ring, they won't be able to unify their party. I think this is one reason McCarthy dropped out. There were also questions that the tea party types would get behind him, or trust him.

 

As was mentioned, there were some in his party who hinted that he had some indiscretions since he has been in DC.

 

I hope John just walks out when he said he will end it. They need to figure it all out soon.

With a majority, can't even elect a leader. Can barely even find someone willing to want to be the leader.

This speaker flap involving the mainstream Republicans and the Tea Party minority only underscores the schism between the two factions. Pelosi and the Dems are wisely staying on the sidelines. They apparently will not be part of any solution. The longer this soap opera drags on, the more likely we'll see Democratic ads in '16 questioning how the GOP can move the country forward if they can't even get the bus out of neutral in the House of Representatives.
