Even if I go to a ball game or out to eat. It's craft beer all of the way. They still control a massive portion of the beverage market. I was drinking Coors Light just this weekend. That said, those companies made their way to the top by killing off and acquiring smaller brewing operations all over the place. It would be fitting if smaller brewers were responsible for their slow demise.

I see it here in the US from time to time as well. The Löwenbräukeller (Löwenbräu's version of the Hofbrauhaus) in Munich is actually just as traditional a beer house as the Hofbrau...it's just not quite as commercially popular.

I know big beer companies have purchased several craft breweries to try to offset what gains they are making, but as of now they are still just a small factor in the overall beer economy. I saw on Twitter (possibly via Darren Rovel) that 1 out of every 5 beers sold in the US today is a Bud Light. This new company will now control 15 of the 20 best selling brands in the US. Thats probably not a good thing for the consumer, but I think it will take quite a bit more for craft beer to really hurt them.

Spending way to much on beer this year visiting them lol.
October 13, 201510 yr This news hits my hometown, Eden, NC very hard. While I was back in NC at my dads funeral a few weeks ago, the Miller Brewing plant in Eden, where my dad retired from, announced it was closing, and soon. The largest employer in town, approximately 550 people will be losing their jobs. They employed more than that at one time, as many as 2,000 I think in the early days. Anyway, two reasons were given; a newer plant in VA that is very close by, thus an oversaturation of product in the region, and Miller losing market share to INBEV and to a lesser extent the craft beer market. Rumors going around that someone is looking to buy it and keep it running...possibly a regional larger craft beer maker looking to expand, but nothing concrete as of yet.

October 14, 201510 yr Rhinegeist is awesome. I have yet to have one I didn't like. Gonna try Fiction this week. Rhinegeist is legit. If I cant get a Fat Tire or Yuengling I'll roll with Budlight as a last resort so this merger doesn't do it for me.
