You can say what you want about what Coach Smith has done lately, but the job he did coaching in 98 was a great coaching job on his part. If you look at how he coached that team and the adjustments he made, you can see he did a great job.

You forgot, Hangman, they didn't have the multi-talented POPE on the Celtics or it would have been a sure fire NBA champioship.

I think he is a great X and O coach.....for a mid-major or a second-tier team in the ACC/SEC/Big 10/Big 12.

 

I am glad we are in agreement also, all in all the fact that a Kentucky team has to overachieve to get a 1 seed, or get to the 2nd Rd, Sweet 16, or Elite Eight totally blows my mind.

But when I point out that he has got his teams to overachieve a few times, you start to change your story! Now you are saying a UK shouldn't have to overachieve, this is just becoming funny. He needs to stop being so loyal to his assistants and go out and get some top notch assistants. Your statement saying Tubby is only a good midmajor coach is rather funny honestly.

Why not. The Tubby bashers always argue that it has been 8 years since a final four appearance. Boheim has been the head coach at Syracuse for 29 years yet has only 3 final four appearances. That's not any better. It took him 11 years to get there (1987) and another 9 years to return (1996) and 7 more to reach his 3rd (2003) Like Tubby he only has one championship. I would be willing to bet that if UK gives Tubby 29 years he would probably have at least 3 final fours as well.
