I would say, given his history, there is no reason to believe jail will fix him.

 

He wouldn't listen to his teachers, he wouldn't listen to his coaches, he wouldn't listen to his family, he obviously wouldn't listen to police. It's DAMN SAD what has become of this kid. HE HAS NO ONE TO BLAME BUT HIMSELF. I guess the only thing left is incarceration so he doesn't kill someone or himself but I doubt he'll listen even there. Just goes to show you size, pedigree and talent doesn't always mean you'll get far. You have to WANT it in my opinion. It's obvious all this young man wants is to be high. He's let a lot of folks down, needs to get right with his Maker and admit he needs his Maker's help.

The time arrest in the report shows 12:06 AM was the time or arrest - Not sure where 4 AM come about. Not that it really matters just saying.

That's possible. "Violation" Time was only 13 minutes prior in the report. A lot happened in that 13 minutes. None of this really matters just thought it was interesting. :lol2:

Why so defensive for him? Based on his record, I think most would be shocked if this were only his first offense.

 

I should have edited my post to say "convicted" instead of "arrested", but my point was, law is law. Convictions as a minor don't count towards convictions as a legal adult. In Kentucky, DUI 1st goes away after five years and if you have a subsequent DUI, although it's your second one, it still is a DUI 1st offense. The arrest record is correct...it's an arrest for Mr. Pike for DUI 1st.

 

And I'm not "so defensive" for Zeke. Zeke was given all the promise and opportunities from birth on. That guy has squandered more in his 22 or years on this planet than many people have a chance to squander in a lifetime. Sadly, Zeke was raised by parents who have bailed him out both figuratively and literally for anything and everything he did. A lot of good it has done him, now.

So what? Criminal charge is STILL a DUI 1st, no matter what the judge sees.

But they can make it the maximum fine and jail time for a first offense.

Prison is the only thing that's left...What a case of wasted youth... Football aside if he ever rights this ship called life. It will be tough to maintain decent employment with the convictions to come.

Its so easy to second guess. But as a parent I have to wonder if sending him to Murray was the right idea to begin with. After the track record he had, I would want to keep him as close to me so I can keep watch..

Not going to pile on here, but not the least bit surprised, I like other folks on this site hope that he can find peace and join society in a positive way. I cant imagine the anguish his parents are going through.

In the past I've been known to go easy on him and attribute it all to being a young and dumb collegiate party animal, and was hoping that with his Murray opportunity had finally put it all behind him, and understood that this was really his last chance, and to make the most of it. I was really pulling for him and hoping for the best.

 

Now I can't be so easy on him... this was truly his last chance, and there's no way that he couldn't possibly have known that. Addiction problems will trump good sense and I've no doubt that he's got troubles that he seriously needs to admit to himself about, and get it straightened out.

 

The football career is done, but his life doesn't have to be. Knowing that he really really blew it this time, severe depression is likely to accompany his addictions, so if he can pull it all together, it's likely to be a long road ahead to get it done.

 

I wish him all the best, but still can't help but to think "Damn dude, how stupid can you be?".

 

All in all it's truly not my place to judge, and for his sake, and for others in his life, and other motorists sharing the same roads as him, I surely hope that he can get it together.
