It will be interesting to see if that is true. If it is, where will the Dowdy and Roberts kids by used on offense? Also if it is true, and Ratliff is indeed the best option at QB, then huge kudos to the coaching staff for not letting a player being a coach's son play into the equation of who starts.

Personally I wish coaches at the middle school, freshmen, and jv levels would give platooning a try.

This is the key to Ashland's future. If they can't platoon, they are in trouble in their class. I'm glad you said it, because when I say it, people think I'm crazy.

1. Everyone knows you're crazy. I didn't think even you argued that point. :sssh::D

2. I think most people agree that platooning is best if there isn't a huge drop off in talent from player A and player B.

I didn't say we were not crazy. But, when everyone thinks it, it's a little too obvious.

There is going to be a drop off no matter how you do it, either a drop off in the fourth quarter because your best players are playing both ways, or do to a possibly lesser player playing. That's why they call it "Coaching". Ashland CAN platoon, they just have to make it a priority. Heck, there are 1A schools that play many different players on offense and defense. That's the secret. A school the size of Ashland HAS to platoon to win in the playoffs, that should be evident after the last several years.

Plus, your boy Easton is the one that said it, fight with him about it.

I'm not disagreeing with you. All I'm saying is that I wouldn't limit studs like Baker and O'Bryan to just one side of the ball.

As valuable as O'Bryan is on defense, it would be a huge waste of his talents not to play him frequently on offense. A 6'3" 230lb TE adds another strong blocker in the running game. If the new QB(whoever it ends up being) gives them more balance on offense, O'Bryan gives them a big target to throw to. I would expect an increase in his production as a pass catcher this year. Only five receptions last year, but three of them went for TDs.

If I'm in charge. I try and follow FTH to the tee. Their JFL and Middle school teams play against each other never playing another opponent. For argument case at Ashland middle school last year had about 60 players 7th and 8th graders take those 60 and make 3 or 4 teams. Play each other it builds more position players down the road. Also at the Varsity level platoon platoon platoon only let your studs play both ways. Seen it at FTH last year and 2 years back. Ashlands 11 against FTH 11 was close maybe even Ashland with a slight advantage but running 2 WRs and 2 RBs on Offense and multiply subs between plays on D takes a toll on a team in the 2nd half. Average at best players making plays on wore out studs does 2 things demoralizes your opponent and gives your player confidence and PT.
