June 25, 201511 yr What logic course, the same one Obama failed. Pretty much. The one where "wrong+wrong = Right"
June 25, 201511 yr The flag in and of itself is not the issue. It's how people have used that flag to symbolize their solidarity and ties to a dark time in our history. It doesn't just represent the south. People who have used this flag to openly symbolize their support of much more modern transgressions and biases has rendered it an overt display of a refusal to move beyond prejudice. It's time to retire it and move forward.
June 25, 201511 yr What was the main reason the Civil War was fought? Do you want to rethink your answer?
June 25, 201511 yr #1 reason Money and trade #2 reason States Rights It wasn't really over slavery until it become an issue for the North to gain support. Did you have enough time to rethink your answer? "Our new government is founded upon exactly the opposite ideas; its foundations are laid, its cornerstone rests, upon the great truth that the negro is not equal to the white man; that slavery, subordination to the superior race, is his natural and normal condition." June 25, 201511 yr South Carolina showed their hate today. At the funeral of the Sen. and pastor at the state capital. The confederate flag was still flying high (wasn't the U.S. flag at half staff?). But, in Alabama, their governor ordered their confederate flags to come down. Very sad, that Alabama will take their flags down, but not South Carolina. The confederate flag was a confederacy battle flag!

June 25, 201511 yr I often hear the "States rights" argument trotted out. The states' right in question was ownership of slaves.
June 25, 201511 yr Is it bad now to have liked The Dukes of Hazzard and the General Lee? Naw. That was just some good ole boys never meanin' no harm.
June 25, 201511 yr Confederate flag needs to go. There is not a single person alive today that can claim it as a core part of "their generation". It should have been banned after the Civil War, Just as the Nazi Swastika went away after WWII.
June 25, 201511 yr Obviously the South fought the war based entirely around economics. Slavery made free labor and they (they being plantation owners) didn't want to pay labor. So of course the war was fought to keep slavery , motivated by almighty dollar. I do think Lincoln gets a little to much credit. While sure ending slavery was a minor part of the Norths motivation, the real motivation was to stop the South from breaking off.
