IMO: Doug Schloemer and Ross Neltner have to be included in any list of players as they are the only two players from NKY that have won Mr. Basketball. Plus Schloemer really won a state championship which was taken from him by the refs.

Covcath-10

Highlands- 9

Newport- 8

Newcath 7

 

Most State Championship Appearances:

Holmes- 4 (1-3...should be 2-2)

Covcath- 2 ( 1-1)

Newport- 2 (0-2)

 

Most Wins:

Holmes- 1,622 (Reynolds Flynn- 569 ; Tom Ellis- 421 ; Henley/Listerman- 408 ; Mike Flynn- 224)

Newcath- 1,370 (per the KHSAA All Time Wins page)

Covcath- 1,310 (per Covcath school website records page)

 

^^^Assuming the KHSAA records are up to date, Holmes comes in at 3rd all time in wins, Newcath is 6th all time in wins, and Covcath comes in at 9th all time in wins.

Doellman is the best in Ryle's short history but not even close to the best ever in the 9th region.

 

Even though he had his issues throughout his college career, Elijah Pittman has been pretty successful at each of his stops. Averaged 16 ppg at Marshall (dropped 20 on both UC and UK his jr year), then 10 ppg, 3 rpg this past season while playing in the D-League.

 

Turned down a workout offer from the Grizzlies to go play in Morocco.

 

That's just one player...there have been others to come through the 9th region with better credentials than what Doellman (and Pittman) have done.

While Neltner was really good, politics played a big part in why he won the award. (Much more campaigning than what Brock's camp/coaches did for him...Mike didn't want the attention and wanted his stats against Doellman/Neltner to tell the true story of who should win the award)

SK has to have the history.

 

One special week in March, that's the whole history. Won the state title and it should be and is recognized, its has been and always will be a great accomplishment, but the best history is Holmes and CCH.

There's been a couple of good players to come out of Mason County recently, but I went a little old school for my team. Some might consider Mason County more eastern, but it is situated as far north as you can go.

 

A school without a "regional identity". Not NKY, not even NEKY.

 

Probably the best three players to come out of MC were Chris Lofton, Darius Miller and Ronnie Lyons. And Maysville High had its share of strong players (and a storied history) as well.
