June 12, 201511 yr Easier to change your gender than your race. Apparently it isn't. I don't think that she was taking hormones, just tons of trips to the tanning bed.
June 12, 201511 yr Wow! No words. If she teaches Africana Studies at E Washington U we can assume she's taken a job from an African American? What other jobs/benefits has she received that should have gone to someone they were meant for? It hasn't been a stellar couple of months for African American study programs.
June 12, 201511 yr There are white members of the NAACP. Any race can be the forefront to fight for equality. The issue is that she lied and misrepresented herself. What has she benefited from by not only lying about her race, but the fabricated stories? The stories is what baffles me more than anything. There are people that have truly lived harsh lives and situations that a person like this takes away from. Being born wrong race as mentioned in this thread makes no sense to me either. While gender is scientifically different, I teach my kids that we are all the same, in accordance to race, on the inside and the only thing different is the skin color. Believing in anything along the lines of a race transformation would completely contradict that.
June 12, 201511 yr I'm having flash backs to one of the greatest comedies of all time .. "White Chicks"
June 12, 201511 yr This whole "identification" garbage is really going to get out of hand because we will let it. You are not something just because you want to be...sorry but you are not. Our society has become so self absorbed that we now just say "I want to be this so I am". If you are a man, you are not a woman and vice versa, no matter how much cutting or adding you do to your body. If you are black, you are not white (and vice versa). If you are poor, you are not rich. If you are short, you are not tall. If you are fat, you are not thin...even if you "identify" yourself as such...

What about the person who has a mixed grandma (possibly some Cherokee in there also) and black grandpa on one side and white grandma and grandpa on the other side (maybe a little Cherokee in there too)? Where does that person fall in? Do they get a choice, or can they enjoy the best of both worlds? You're searching for absolutes in a very gray world, my friend. I got news for you, it's different now.

June 12, 201511 yr Am I the only one who thinks this is awesome? I love this woman. She may have some issues but I think this is pretty cool. And funny. :lol2:
June 12, 201511 yr The first thing that came to my mind was Soul Man. There is no comparing this to Jenner. Let's assume Jenner did feel trapped in a males body and that is the only reason he is now a woman. Why did this lady do this? Did she feel that she she would get better opportunities being a minority and in the field of work that she was interested in? Did she only do it for financial gain?

Did she feel that she she would get better opportunities being a minority and in the field of work that she was interested in? Did she only do it for financial gain? How come there's no comparison to Jenner? I'll bet real money that she could find some "competent" psychiatrist or psychologist or whatever ...ist she needs to say in her mind she's really black. Why are we (the collective we, not me because I'm not sure I accept it) perfectly willing to accept on face value that Jenner is actually a woman? What is the difference? Is it appearance? Anatomically Jenner is still a man, why is it just on his word that it is accepted. Jenner stands to make several million dollars for his/her "courage". To say that financial gain isn't at least a part of the reason that (s)he's now a 65 year old lesbian is naive.
June 13, 201511 yr Why can't white people teach Africana studies? There are white people in Africa. No doubt but how many white people are teaching those classes or holding NAACP positions?
June 13, 201511 yr To say that financial gain isn't at least a part of the reason that (s)he's now a 65 year old lesbian is naive. That's your opinion. I said let's assume Jenner's only reason is he felt trapped. And, why did this lady do this? Does she really think that she is black? Or was it was way to get a career and money? The whole theory of her thinking that she is really black fell apart as soon as she was asked if she was black, and her response was "I don't understand the question". She knew she was caught. If she really felt that she was black she would have responded differently. Then she was asked "your parents, are your parents white?" And she doesn't respond and just walks off? If she really believes she is black she would have responded differently. Then her adopted younger sister, who is black, she told people it was her daughter? To me it wasn't anything about thinking she was black. IMO she realized she was caught. But I'm open to her explanation, if she can give a straight answer.
