I agree.....she is not doing it out of disrespect....it seems to me she identifies with and wants to be black. I have met people like that. I grew up in the South part of Memphis which was/is predominantly black. I knew white kids in school that identified more with black culture than white culture...what's wrong with that. When I moved to Colorado, I used to kid a black friend who was from Colorado that I had more black history than he did.

I believe that research says differently. I have recently read several articles about DNA and race to ask this same question. Here is one:

Geneticists believe that race is a very small influence in DNA differences. So one may conclude that most of the differences then that we perceive are visual, behavioral, language and cultural. IMO then, inside we are generally the same.

That's a question for teachers and cops.

 

Wouldn't bother me any to get rid of it. I know TONS of college educated blacks who got their jobs based their abilities and not a skin quota. TONS. Any company in 2015 that still uses quotas is still operating under the Good Ole Boys Network. I'm not seeing that network as prevalent these days as I did in the 80s when affirmative action was more necessary.

 

I'd say it depends on the industry. There are still some careers where the amount of qualified black applicants doesn't equal their percentage to the population.

 

It's still very prevelent for corporate search firms looking for qualified minority candidates.

 

With most companies it isn't so much affirmative action but trying to make your workforce look like the community it serves.

Agreed. Either way I don't think affirmative action is needed as much as it used to be. Even the Rooney Rule isn't needed as much anymore.

Story came out now that she once said her dad escaped a black cop that was hunting him in the south by jumping on a train.

Once said she was born in a teepee.

Said that Jesus Christ is down on her Birth Certificate as a witness because they lived in the middle of nowhere, I guess in a teepee.

If a black guy and a white guy have equal resume it is just smart business to chose the black guy. Mainly because in the industry I'm in you don't get that option a lot. It's bad business to have all white male faces. At the end of the day I'm all about smart business moves.

My former employer got aggressive recruiting minorities and females many years ago. I had a work aquantance once tell me that at a job fair the recruiter almost tackled her when she walked past their booth. Said the company bent over backwards to hire her, offering her the location of her choice and a position above where most new hires with a college degree would start. When by her own account she was struggling and should have been let go they promoted her into another area of the company.

 

She had a degree in Hotel Management but Walmart bent over backwards in her own words to hire her...she admitted readily why she was hired.

 

If it's the law or not most companies and larger entities will hire diversely as good business practice as LB said.

I mean, the Lord's been spitting out factory rejects for millennia. Each one of us has some kind of tragic defect. I eat and drink too much, don't exercise enough, have bad eyesight (corrected, mind you), am mildly OCD and a few others.

 

Some have lots, lots more issues. In the 1800s and early 1900s, they were thought of as circus freaks or worse. Many of those attitudes linger today.
