Republicans used to always talk about "running government like a business," but then Enron and the financial meltdown of '07-'08 put them on different talking points.

I will take it as you are asking for my opinion on Commando's post? Otherwise, why pose your post in this way?

The post I DID reply to followed the Dems party line which portrayed support or lack thereof to specific legislature to lack of support on the issues which is/was misleading and not truthful...politics as usual. So, the person that falls into this misinformation trap either wants to or is duped.

Cammando's post is one of the main reasons inroads won't be made. The sentiment in that post is what is seen and heard by blacks/minorities and that isn't an endearing way of saying, "welcome to our party, we'd love to have you." No, what that post says(intentional or not) is "you and people of your ilk disgust me and we are tired of you and your freeloading ways."

 

That's how that post comes across(again, intentional or not) and we all know that this kind of thinking is prevalent in the Republican Party yet folks can't figure out why a lot of blacks won't vote republican. Other republicans will jump in and agree with that sentiment instead of calling out that sentiment as being dividing. Instead it gets flipped and then democrats are labeled as dividing, deflection starts taking place and the conversation ends up being non-productive because everyone becomes defensive.

And you know this how? Of course not all republicans are conservative just like all democrats are not liberal. The concern that I have is that once a department is set up or a benefit is given...they become entitlements.

 

The most brilliant plan in the world is to get more people on the dole of the government so they vote for more government. It is logical, and it is exactly where are we going. Eventually, we will figure out we are now socialist, then the pretenses of democracy can be bypassed, and then we can have committees managing our resources and making decisions that we simple people cannot make on our own.

Not all black conservatives are called Uncle Toms. I know plenty of black conservatives that would never be called Uncle Toms and would never qualify as Uncle Toms.

Well that's good to hear...but are any of them in politics, those are the ones I'm talking about. If a Black conservative is in politics he generally ends up being called that. Maybe not all of them, but every prominent black candidate that I've seen has been called one.

I've heard what I posted from way more Dems than the GOP... I've heard it most all my life hear in Kentucky from Dems...Their mantra is: "Don't vote for those evil Republicans.. They will take away your government check... Soooo, they keep voting for Dems and their plight isn't getting any better...

Anyone can go to google and find something inflammatory posted about anything and anyone. That's not my point. I'm sure they've all been called Uncle Toms at some point but I guarantee more black democrats have been called and labeled Uncle Toms than black republicans. The same way you look up those black republicans you mentioned to find them being called Uncle Toms I can find you identical things on Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton and even our favorite black guy, Obama.

 

 

My point is that the assumption that all black conservatives are considered Uncle Toms is false. There are way more black conservatives out there than people realize.

And we have exhibit A in why I no longer even consider voting Republican. All Republicans don't hold this attitude, but far too many do. What is worse, the sane Republicans are afraid to call out the wingnuts.

 

Much like sane Dems won't call out their own? As long as there are people like Nancy Pellosi and Barbara Boxer and Sheila Jackson Lee that are embraced by Dems they've totally lost me.

Simple. Bengal was talking about politicians, who I may add have an approval rating close to the teens. The other was a blanket statement about a very large group of people, all minorities and all poor people, a 47% statement saying that all minorities and poor only want handouts and nothing else.

^ having said that above. I wish we would make many who receive help to do something. I don't care if it's 10 hours a week picking up trash, mowing lawns in public places, shoving public sidewalks in winter, all of course if they are physically able.

The only way the GOP wins the presidency is if there is a real or perceived threat to national security. National security issues have a way of pushing everything else aside. Unfortunately, given the GOP does not understand the difference between national security and foreign intervention, which is dangerous. Saddam Hussein won GWB second term for him, but was never a threat to this country.
