June 10, 201511 yr Author Maybe we need a thread to see if the democrat party can ever make inroads with White voters ever again? In about 40 years it may not matter.
June 10, 201511 yr What has really mattered the most the last few national elections isn't so much political positions as it is turn out. And turn out will likely determine the next presidential election as well. High turnout and Hillary wins. Moderate turnout and (insert R name here) wins. Will black Americans turn out for Hillary like they did for President Obama? Will Hispanics turn out? That's what it will come down to, unless the the Rs nominate someone that could swing the Hispanic vote....Cruz, Bush, Rubio. Though I have to ask myself do Mexican-Americans get excited about Cuban-American candidates the way they would someone from Mexico or Central America?
June 10, 201511 yr In about 40 years it may not matter. That's true. I suspect just as the democrat and republican parties of today are not what they were 40 years ago, we will see something much different 40 years from now. At some point we need a viable third party to come about in order to focus government back to where it belongs. If we don't I pity our grandkids.

The upcoming presidential election would seem to benefit a third-party challenger, yet I am seeing no evidence of such, like in '68 or '92. Probably because of the increasing costs to mount such a challenge and the effects of Citizens United.

Agreed, it's going to take a major movement that is able to raise the billions needed to compete with the big 2. It will have to be a long term process, not just have some success over a presidential cycle or two.

I'm interested in seeing if blacks will vote for Hillary also. I don't think they will turn out like they did for Obama but I am intrigued to see if she can get that black vote.
June 10, 201511 yr Can't see youth or blacks turning out for Hillary like they did for Obama. Like him or not, Obama was a breath of fresh air and energized both those voting blocs. She will still get the standard Democrat percentage though, that's not going to change.

June 10, 201511 yr I don't see it changing anytime soon either. I do think Rand Paul is heading in the rig direction though. Paul interests me as well, though I admit I haven't researched his entire platform. But I like that he apparently thinks through each issue without the D or R prism influencing his thought process. That alone is a plus in my book. I try to do the same thing and so now I'm curious to learn more about him. If Paul is pretty closely aligned with my beliefs I will seriously consider voting for him.

I think you guys are too easily willing to dismiss the Bill Clinton Effect, and his ability to charm on the campaign trail.
June 10, 201511 yr I think you guys are too easily willing to dismiss the Bill Clinton Effect, and his ability to charm on the campaign trail. Hill ain't Bill and that was 25 years ago. He can charm all he wants but at some point she's taking the mike with the camera's on her and that's when he can't save her any longer.
June 11, 201511 yr As to Commando's polarizing post, I think it has very little to do with race. But I pray that we all could agree that this country is in need of welfare reform. I see far more whites abusing the system than any other race. That's grass roots issues if you ask me.

Like I stated before, the abusers will keep voting for Dems to keep the checks flowing..
June 11, 201511 yr Exactly.... Like I stated before, the abusers will keep voting for Dems to keep the checks flowing.. I'd love to see the actual numbers of how many of them really vote. Frankly, I bet it's way lower than you think.
