For the most part, I think men are way more freaked out about things like this than women. The comments in this thread seem to indicate as much. In the grand scheme of life though, how does this effect you?

 

If your neighbor kicks his dog, in the grand scheme of life it doesn't directly affect you but you would certainly be justified to be concerned/angered about it. While not an apples to apples comparison, shows how something doesn't have to affect you for you to have a reaction to it.

 

While I generally dislike when people play God (human cloning, gender transformation, etc.), at this point, I just wish he and the whole family would just go away. I wish I could turn on the TV without another freaking show talking about it being on every dang station.

I think when it comes time to hack his nuts off he should simply do it either under local or with an epidural so he can watch. And it should then be up for pay per view. He could top Mayfield-Pacquiao

Ok...this is not a joke but something I've been thinking about. I know this is physically impossible at this point but let's say Bruce Jenner was 29 instead of 69. He is an Olympic hero, blah, blah, blah...goes through with this transformation to Caitlyn and decides he wants to return to the Olympics...as a female. Would this be allowed? I mean, he would technically be a woman.

 

Could you imagine someone winning the gold as a man and a woman?

She is also a public figure, and we would have found out anyway. And these conversations would have taken place whether she chose to hide it or chose as she did to continue her life in the public eye. Why should she discontinue her celebrity or drop out of the public eye to satisfy those that don't agree with her choice. The public knew about this well before she made any official, public announcement. And not accepting her choice isn't a reason to not be nice to her or respect her wishes.

Ideas as to what is "mainstream" or acceptable evolve over time. And thank goodness they do. There was a time that civil rights or women owning property and voting were considered not acceptable. Sometimes that evolution/process makes people uncomfortable. Even though most everyone is familiar with the idea of someone being transgender, to this point there really hasn't been a public figure or poster child for the movement. Jenner is kind of by default that person. And like it or not, there are quite a few people like her, that really do view her as a big time hero. In your world, no she isn't a hero...this isn't a cause that means a whole heckuva lot to you. And that's ok. But remember, not everyone is like you. And that should be ok to.

I agree the word hero is used often pretty loosely. Athletes are always referred to as hero's for example. But what if you don't like sports?? Part of being a hero is inspiring others. Doesn't alway mean laying your life on the line. Sometimes it means standing up for what you believe in. Different people have different heroes. I can see where those in the transgender community can view Jenner as a hero. Just because he isn't your hero, doesn't mean he isn't a hero to someone, or even many people.

The last time I checked I was still allowed to have an opinion even if that didn't follow the PC playbook.

If I were trapped in the wrong body/gender, I could see where that could be hell on earth. But Ms. Jenner is making it into a sideshow. "Follow the money."
