I just think it's ridiculous that they're giving her the Arthur Ashe award when someone such as Lauren Hill clearly is more deserving.

The idea that something has to effect me for me to have an opinion on it is sort of contradictory to being on a message board now isn't it?

The ESPY's are also Jenner's first appearance since the change. That seems to be the only reason (s)he won the award... Ratings.

I think it's bizarre, but to each his own. I just wish the media would let it go away, and I certainly don't believe he's worthy of the Arthur Ashe Courage Award. Especially when there are people like Stuart Scott, Lauren Hill, Leah Still, and hundreds of others that are more deserving (IMO, of course).

I don't get it. I think folks are way off base with the thought that Jenner is doing this purely for publicity, or as a stunt so he can stay in the limelight or as a way to generate cash. There are plenty of easier ways to do that. Just look at all the meme's out there poking fun at her situation. No way is that something someone would be willing to endure just for a few bucks. No chance that this could have been easy. Also, I don't get why people are going out of the way to slip in the he/she remarks....are the (s)he references really necessary?? What's the point?? Is it really so hard to just call Caitlyn Jenner a she without mentioning the fact the she used to be a he?? Everyone knows that. Why not just respect her wishes and just call her "she"? Sure it's awkward, but it's the right thing to do. And if all of that bother's you, then just ignore it. If you've got nothing nice to say, then don't say anything.

 

For those that say what he did doesn't require courage, I don't agree. Sure he's getting some support and publicity, but the fact that many are questioning his motives, and calling this a stunt, really diminishes the difficulty that people in his situation face every day. Let's explore...if you told Mr. Lawildcat you wanted another woman, he would probably get excited. What if he told you he wanted another man? Just wondering...not to pick on you?

Courage? Maybe so, I'd imagine it does to some extent. Not anywhere near the courage it took to do what Lauren Hill did, or what Devon and Leah Still are doing, or what Stuart Scott did. That's my issue. To give her an award that has went to individuals such as Pat Tillman, Nelson Mandela, and the individuals from United Flight 93 over the individuals I mentioned is ridiculous and ESPN should be absolutely ashamed. They've completed cheapened the award and in turn the accomplishments of the individuals who have won the award in the past.

A hero is simply someone who is admired and provides inspiration to others based on their actions. Whether those outside that community view Jenner as a hero or not, does not diminish what those in that community feel. To say that she isn't a hero at all is ignoring the thoughts and feelings of the entire transgender community, which is likely much larger than many of us would care to believe.
