This. Zac Brown sang it in concert Friday night and had a Marine come out in his Dress Blues (walking with a cane). As he turned to leave the stage, cane fell, Marine bends awkwardly to pick it up and the place goes nuts. Unbelievable and not a dry eye in the place.

 

Also, one the means so much to me, especially since my step-father has passed, is "He Didn't Have to Be", by Brad Paisley. Can't get through the song without becoming a mess.

They had someone play Taps before the National Anthem at the Reds game on Memorial Day. Gave me major cold chills.

Check out the last song and video by Glen Campbell called 'I'm not gonna miss you'. He is still alive but in the late stages of Alzheime's disease. Video and song are very touching. I know I am ignorant, but I don't know how to link it.

Bluto, Jr. got married this past weekend. I know it's hokey, but when his bride was dancing to "Butterfly Kisses" I got pretty choked up.

Mom by Garth Brooks - Not a big fan of his, but this is a newer song that was my mother-son dance song at my wedding. The song itself is pretty slow, but the lyrics get me.

Cats in the Cradle - Harry Chapin

Since Birdsfan passing, this one chokes me up. I introduced him to this song a couple years ago, gets me every time now.

 

In the right mood "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother" can get to me.

This song gets me choked up a little because of the lyrics and I just think Ronnie Dunn sings it beautifully. Plus it reminds me of my Spring Break in 2006 in Gatlinburg with some of my closest buddies at the time:

If there's one way to unleash my obsessive compulsive behavior it's bringing up a topic such as this.

 

Even when I feel as though I'm numb to emotion, or that nothing effects me to my core, put on certain tunes and I'm reminded instantly that maybe I'm not as cold as I might've thought, and then I'll need to locate the box of Puffs and/or hide the razor blades.

 

As I began pondering the songs that effect me in said way the list kept growing to ridiculous proportions... And though the list is long, there's little doubt that it's complete.

 

So now I have to make a decision:

 

1. Should I post the entire list, which will undoubtedly scream overkill?

 

or

 

2. Post the list provided with links to songs which will scream overkill even more so and be a big waste of time for everyone because who in their right mind will bother to spend the hours listening?

 

or

 

3. Post one song a day until I've depleted the list and stand a better chance that anyone wishing to follow can more reasonably spend a mere 5 minutes a day bothering to listen?

 

or

 

4. Just say that the list is long, and since everyone knows that I can go overboard, just take my word for it, sparing you any time wasted on the matter?

 

I'm leaning towards choice number 3, but fear that you all will be bored to tears long before you are brought to tears by the songs that I will provide.

 

Before I begin posting daily tear jerkers, this topic has also brought to mind songs that are consistent with the theme of songs that can trigger tears and emotions, so even though these first 3 songs do not really choke me up, I'll start with them in the spirit of touching upon the theme of songs that do.

 

The Music of the Night - Michael Crawford

Anyone familiar with Bon Iver knows that the band is a vehicle for the primary song writer Justin Vernon who essentially was a virtual unknown when he locked himself up in a cabin in Wisconsin with his acoustic guitar to write his first sparse effort behind the name Bon Iver in 2007 that garnered him much praise, and lead him to international prominence, also earning him a couple of Grammy awards in 2012 after releasing Bon Iver's second effort in 2011.

 

Personally I'm not a huge fan of him, or the band as his vocals require an acquired taste that I've never managed to acquire, however I do have respect for him and very much like his tune "Flume" from his first album.

 

Peter Gabriel liked it a lot as well, and felt compelled to record a cover of it. What an honor it must be to have Peter Gabriel cover one of your songs.

 

The lyrics are rather abstract, and I've heard various speculations about what they're about. It's a good example of a tune that should be left up to the listener to determine for themselves, however there is a mood to the song with some catch words that can evoke emotions that can lie beneath the surface.

 

Although I like Bon Iver's version, I personally love Peter Gabriel's version much more.
