June 1, 201511 yr If you happened to be moved by the Jeremy Messersmith tune that I posted a couple of days ago, for today's entry here's another one by him that also demonstrates his ability to rip your heart out. If you've experienced the cold numbness and grieving of losing a treasured loved one, and the wondering of how you'll ever manage to move forward with life, this tune pretty much nails expressing that feeling. It's good to have a close friend that understands to help you get through.
June 2, 201511 yr Penned and originally performed back in the late 60's by the late British singer/songwriter Sandy Denny of the "Fairport Convention", who died at the age of 31 as a result of her drug addiction troubles, her deeply moving song "Who Knows Where The Time Goes" is covered here, and IMO the greatest version in existence, by none other than the Cold Spring, Ky native, and Campbell County High School grad Daniel Martin Moore on his first release from 2008, Stray Age. He creates a mood with the tone of his voice that shows the depth of every last word of the song. Our days will inevitably pass with the changing of the seasons, and can so very swiftly, and also very heavily on the heart if done so with the absence of love, but having that love can make all the difference. It would be a shame if more Kentuckians didn't experience the magic that this guy brings to music. He is one of this state's most special, humble talents, and best kept secrets that is quietly, and thankfully making a name for himself.

June 4, 201511 yr Someone to Pull The Trigger - Matthew Sweet When I first heard this song years ago I misunderstood it to be some sort of suicide song because of its title, and also with that title being repeated in the song. Little by little the emotion of the tune crept into to me, and I realized that I was wrong about its meaning, and that he was standing on the doorstep of a possible love relationship, and though he had loved and lost before, and had been around the block, he wanted to be certain about moving forward, as he was in a position where he was tired of being lonely, and wanted this time to play for keeps. I can also see where the suicide thing could be within the writer's theme as "If this is not real love, I no longer have the strength to live", but more than anything he wants it to be real and he's aching to be loved. The more I heard it and felt like I understood, the more it emotionally effected me. I really think that it's a fine piece of songwriting. The line "So hold me, love me, tie me up and drug me, cause I'm not gonna beg you for my life" always gets me.

Caught him open for the Indigo Girls years ago at the Cincinnati Zoo early in his career when I was unaware and too stupid to pay attention. I'll never forgive myself for that. Finally wised up and caught him a couple of years later for a great show at Bogarts.
