Sorry, I was out of town and just got back tonight.

 

As of Thursday:

His temp was back up to 104.5. He's on his 4th antibiotic to fight the pneumonia.

 

They took the tubes out of his head. He is still in a deep coma & on a respirator, though.

 

 

As of Friday:

CAT scan results showed that Justin had a bile leak from his liver. His temp was "down" to 102.1. He still has pneumonia. The radiologists were supposed to insert a drain at the bottom of his liver to collect the fluid...they will monitor that, and if it does not work then they will have to do another procedure called ERCP, which is where they insert a stint into his bile duct.

 

They were not able to do an MRI on Justin (like they had hoped to do) due to his weight. He's retaining water and is over 300 lbs (about 50-60 or so pounds heavier than usual, probably). They are working on taking the fluids out, so that they can do the MRI.

 

That's the latest that I have. Like I said, I was out of town and did not get any updates. I'll let you know as soon as I hear something.

Anyone have anymore updates on Justin?

I met Justin's Mom at University Hospital. My mom is there and was in the NSICU, she has since taken a turn for the worse and was moved to the SICU, but I talked to his mom the other day and told her about all the prayers from BGP. She wanted me to tell everyone that she Thanks You and she is just amazed at the support they have received. I told her we would continue to pray for Justin until he is completely well.

5-13-06 10:15-11am visit today a nursephycologist inserted electrodes to monitor Justin's brain stimulation. We are supposed to meet with Dr. Shutter this week to get a prognosis.

5:15 visit. They removed the tube from his lungs.

Prayer's for Justin, Mom and family continue.

I'm pulling hard for this fella, God bless him and his family! I'm really hoping,... and praying for the best. God performs miracles every day, let's just hope we get to witness another one here soon for Justin and his family.

5-15-06 They took Justin this morning to do an open MRI, his shoulders were too big for the Spec MRI which is how they did his last MRI on Friday 5/12 and they couldn't get a good reading from the MRI on Friday. 3:45 They removed his TRUMEN monitor because they are afraid of infection and are inserting a PICC (piclinine) this is the line they will use for his IV and fluids that he needs. They are also planning on putting Justin on 2 different types of antibiotices Cipro and flagly. He's still running a high fever and they can't find the cause. But the nurse did tell me that he actually hit her with his left hand/arm today when she was doing the oral hygene on his mouth. So he showing some good signs.

I feel as though I am living a nightmare and it's so surreal. I feel that each day Justin is here is a gift. He's young, stuborn and strong. I'm hanging in there and going through the motions. I'm so overwhelmed by everyone's kindness. Mother's Day was a difficult day but there were plenty of people that included me by bringing me flowers and cards. While I was at the hospital on Mother's Day, a couple of ANGELS planted over 100 flowers at our house.

5-16-06 We had a meeting today with Dr Shutter on Justin's prognosis

Justin did not fit in the SPEC MRI machine because his shoulders are 22" and the machine is only 19". So the drs. relied on older technology an open MRI and an SSEP test (Somatos sensory envoked) The results suggest that his brain stem is OK. Also his Corpuse colosum which is the center of the brain is stretched not torn. A stretch can heal if it was torn they could not repair it. If it was torn it would mean no functionality. Justin also has injuries in his frontal lobes. We are encouraged to try to wake Justin up. The Dr. suggested talking to him, playing his favorite music, putting the TV on to things he would normally watch, colognes or soaps that he likes. When he wakes he will not recognize his environment. And they have no idea when he will wake up. It is going to be a long, slow process and he is going to have to re-learn alot of things. Dr Shutter also said that Justin will not have the same personality or be at 100%. But the doctors are not God and only he knows how Justin will be. Justin is now qualified fro LTAC (long term acute care) which will probably be Cardinal Hills a facility in Ft Thomas. It is going to take 6-9 months before Justin's brain will heal and for the drs. to discover exactly what his disabilities may be.

5-16-06 Justin had to get another blood transfusion today, they re-adjusted his pick, his blood pressure has dropped and today was his first day of therapy

I read a message that said Justin opened his eyes today, only for a brief moment, but it may be a sign that he may be coming out of the coma.

5-18-06 I started out having a bad morining with it being Justin's 21st birthday and we were supposed to be in Vegas celebrating. But when me and my mom went the first visit and the nurse told us that she had seen his eyes opened when the trama doctors were doing there rounds earlier I cried tears of joy. Also during this visit The physical therapist came in and was doing therapy on his arm and he bent his left knee up towards his stomach. She said this was great not good great. At the 2:15 visit the nurse told me that Justin had a panic attack and was real upset when they were moving him from his air bed back to a regular bed. His heart and respitory went way up and his blood pressure went way down. She was concerned why he was acting so frantic. I took it as a sign that he was aware of something being done to him and maybe confused about it. After the 6:15 visit the nurse came to get me and he had his eyes open. He kept them open for about 5 minutes it was so awesome. So everyone keep up the prayers.

I know how the ups and down of something like this go, so I know with the good there will be some bad, I just hope there are many more good than bad and we can continue to get good news.
