Perspective and realistic expectations are important. This young man has a long way to go. With all of the positives mentioned above, its a hard road ahead.

 

However, I think we can all agree that we'd all take it.

He will give you the "peace that passes understanding" as he did me when my newborn son was on a vent and in a medically induced coma. He is now 10 and all boy. GOD answers prayers and I will definitely keep Justin and your family in mine!

Same here, love hearing that this fella's progressing, the brains something speacial and hard to determine what it'll do next. I still pray for justin and his family. Happy belated 21'st.

 

Also football thanks for the updates, and I'm sure this is hard on you, but know just like Justin you've got alot of people hear to support you as well. Can't wait til he get's a chance to come back around, I think he's got alot of people waiting to see him, once he get's back to us.

I have heard nothing but positive things on Justin, the past 2 days.

 

I believe it was posted on here that he opened his eyes for about 5 minutes.

 

I have also heard that when a nurse was brushing his teeth, Justin took his hand and tried to knock the toothbrush & nurse's hand away. Sounds like good news to me...

 

If I hear anything else I will be sure to relay it. Please continue to pray for Justin and his family!

Sorry for the delay in posting. I spend the weekends at the hospital with my mom and do not have access to my computer.

 

Here is the latest updates from the Care Page. I will continute to check them daily and post the new info.

 

5-19-06 Justinis still running a fever. They took the drain tube out of him. The nurse said he opened his eyes for a brief second when they were moving him around today. They also removed his A-line which was one of two ways they were using for monitoring his blood pressure.

5-20-06 Justin is still running a fever. I haven't seen him open his eyes again but the nurses say he does for a few seconds when they move him around. I feel when I talk to him he moves around like he hears me. He looks better each day. Most of the swelling is gone from his left side. They are not giving him anything to help reduce the swelling he is getting rid of it himself and they say this is also a good sign. The respitory tech came in today during one of the visits and his told us he is breathing on his own

and that his lungs are good. The treach will remain to help him breath.

5-21-06 Justin is still running a fever the highest it got today was 102.8. When we got to the 2:15 visit the nurse was with him and his eyes were open so we got to see him with his eyes open for about a minute. The doctors are planning to do a CAT Scan on his abdomen and chest on Monday or Tuesday to see once again if they can find the cause of his fever.

Just to give a short update on my mom. Wed May 10Th. They told us she would not make it through the night and by Wed May 24Th she will be going to a rehab facility to get therapy to get her strength back so she can come home with hopefully no limitations

Well it's been 3 long agonizing weeks. He was still running a fever. They discovered that he has a Urinary Tract Infection and put him on a new antibiotic (cefepime) at around midnight last night and it seems to be lowering his fever. They had him sitting up this morning and he opened his left eye a little when I was talking to him. A doctor also came in and checked his arms and legs and she said he had good tone and range of motion. Justin also has a lung infection and they put him on another antibiotic (tobrmycin). They are also planning on moving him to Cardinal Hill either Wednesday or Thursday. Cardinal Hill is located on the 3rd floor of St Luke Hospital in FT. Thomas, Ky.

 

I little back ground on Cardinal Hill....

They are an LTACH (Long Term Acute Care Hospital) Patients go there when they still need the "hospital setting" and they prepare them for rehab. I was told with my mom the average stay there is 25 to 30 days. They have the ability to treat the medical conditions (i.e. infections, vents, trachs......) but they also have physical and occupational therapy 4 to 5 times a week. Visiting hours are much better 1PM to 8PM every day. It is kind of like having a small hospital in large hospital. They have their own staff doctor, therapists and pharmacy on the floor. The nurse to patient ratio is 4 to 1 verses 2 to 1 in the intensive care setting, but the families can stay for 7 hours a day. They don't have to wait for the 45 minutes at a time like the ICU.

I am still praying for Justin and ask that you do the same. he still has a long hard road ahead

We're still praying for him. It'll be a long road, but it sounds like he has a strong will, a strong family, and God on his side. :thumb:
