I've been thinking about him and his Mom this weekend. My prayer's continue.

Well its been five long weeks since Justin's accident. His was sitting up in his new chair when I got to Drake this morining. They are planning on sitting him up for an hour or two each day. He is breathing 100% on his own. The Respitory Therapist have the vent on the lowest setting and if he does well for 24 hours and the Dr. says its okay they will take him off the vent and put him on a cool aeresol. We have been doing theraphy on Justin to help him with his range and motion. We do this twice a day. It takes about an hour each set. They will not be doing physical therapy on him since he is not concious. So its up to us to keep him exercising. He has been opening his eyes a couple times a day. He opens them when the aides are changing his sheets or rotating him. He also opens them when we are doing theraphy on him.

That is great news!

He's still in the coma and the most recent update says that he's pretty much breathing on his own with the lowest setting possible on the ventilator.

Prayers continue to go up for Justin as well as his family. Remember that God will support you and give you strength as you aid Justin in his recovery. May God grant you the "Peace that passes understanding" during this time.

Glad to hear that Justin is making progress. Just let him know that we are still here praying for him and to keep up the good fight.

Justin was taken off the ventilator on Wednesday and still has the treach with a cool aeresol connected to it. He sat up in his chair for 3 hours today. He opened his eyes a couple of times. People have been asking for Drakes address to send cards. I don't know how long we will be at Drake so I think it would be better to send cards to the house and I will take them to Justin. I should meet with the head nurse today to dicuss Justins progress - etc. On Wednesdays all the Dr., Therapist, nurse and etc get together and discuss the patients and then the head nurse meets with the families on Wednesdays or Thursdays to dicuss progress and etc. Thanks again for everyones kindess and the love and prayers that keep coming our way.

So far Justin has lost 30 pounds since his accident. It's a good thing he was a big guy to begin with or he would be nothing but bones. He had both his eyes open for about an hour today (yeah. He wasn't focussing but he did keep them open. I met with the head nurse today and they are talking about putting him on ritalin again to see if this will help to wake him up. They tried it at UC and it made him sick to his stomach. Today they did a bowel culture to see if he has an infection. They call the infection C-diff (colitus). It is caused because of all the anitbiotics that he is on. They would have to treat it with yet another antibiotic. We should have the test results on Friday. He sat up again today for about an hour in his chair. I need for everyone to pray extra hard for him to wake up. I found out that after June 30th that Drake will no longer be taking Blue Cross and Blue shield which is our insurance. They will continue to treat him after the 30th with Blue Cross but if he has to go to a nursing home he wouldn't be able to go back to Drake. Also its the same for him to go to the Brain Trauma unit he will have to go before the 30th because they would consider it a re-admission to move there.

Justin was in his chair for 2 1/2 hrs. They took him for a chest and an abdomen x-ray and a brain cat scan. He seems more active and he opened his eyes several times. The longest he kept them open today was about 15 minutes. They started him on Ritalin this evening around 6:00 the nurse said it would take a couple of days in his system before they will see any results. They did not have his cultures back for the C-diff virus. I should get all the results from the various test on Monday.

Justin had his eyes open a lot today. He had his left eye totally open and the right one about 1/4 of the way. He was not focusing just kind of staring. But I think his eyes were open more than they were closed today. I feel this is a really great sign. I know he can hear me. When I went in to see him this morning and gave him a kiss on his forehead and said Hey, its mom and his left eye opened up. He was really active today especially on his left side. He was lifting his left knee and foot up and once laid his leg over the side of the bed. So now we have to work on getting him to focus with his eyes and to follow some commands - like squeeze my hand, wiggle your toes etc. I guess all those prayers are working! Keep them going - Love and blessings to you all!!!!
